If you ever reach a point where you don't know how to respond in your chat that just means whatever character you're playing isn't sufficiently defined. A good character should have a good response for any given situation. Greetings should obviously have a stronger hook than "{{char}} walks up to {{user}} and says hi." but that's also the bare minimum after which you should stop blaming them for your own insipidity.
