Day 40.
I headed to Lake Verity next, where Team Galactic had already made their move. Despite my efforts, they succeeded in capturing the legendary Pokémon Mesprit. I battled my way through their grunts, and during the chaos, my Prinplup evolved into the mighty Empoleon. With my new ace leading the charge, I took on Commander Mars and defeated her, but the damage was done—two of the lake guardians were now in Galactic’s hands.
Determined to stop them, I made my way far north, venturing into Sinnoh’s snowy wilderness with the goal of reaching Lake Acuity. The icy winds were harsh, but I pushed through and caught both a Sneasel and a Snover as I trudged through the deep snow. Although I couldn’t access Lake Acuity yet, I eventually reached Snowpoint City and decided to take on the local Gym Leader, Candice—who, I have to say, is pretty cute.
The battle opened with her Sneasel landing some quick Ice Shards that nearly took out Staraptor, but Staraptor responded with one clean Close Combat and took it down. Houndoom stepped in next, landing a one-shot Fire Fang on her Abomasnow. Empoleon followed up, washing away Piloswine with a powerful Surf. Then came her Froslass. Slippery and evasive, it gave me real trouble and even managed to freeze Luxray with Blizzard. Still, Luxray broke through and finished the job with a few Crunches.
With Candice defeated, I earned my seventh badge and stood one step closer to the Pokémon League—though Team Galactic’s plan still loomed large.
