i was in vegas last summer for my cousin's anniversary meetup and it was brown everywhere. browns running the casinos from the 4ft janitors to the floor bosses, who look like 4ft janitors in suits. most of the clientele looked like brazilian tourists. the arcade/midway areas in most hotels are barely even running anymore, the booths are unstaffed and turned off until someone shows up asking to play and then you're playing by yourself. of course that is because there are no families there anymore, no kids other than unchaperoned brown teenagers. inside, the casinos still reek of cheap cigarettes and even the pricey restaurants have terrible food and service. outside the buildings and people movers were visibly dirty and unwashed. wall street continues buying up and destroying classic landmarks like the tropicana hotel. i think only nostalgic boomers and unwise tourists still care about vegas. the place has become a corporate cost-cutting shithole.

several years ago i visited a tribal casino in socal. it was more reminiscent of vegas in the 90s. people go there with their families, they have cosplayers greeting people at the doors, they put effort into decoration and atmosphere, they only have in-house boutiques and no shitty chain stores (starbucks) inside. and as a bonus, they're much cleaner than vegas ever was. it actually feels like you're in a vacation spot while vegas is devolving into its original, seedy self from the mafia days.
