That's fair. I personally don't like the idea of visual mods for a multiplayer game, I dislike the potential mismatch between what I and other players see, and Mare is smart for that (I didn't realise you could use it for separate instances, I had assumed it was all or nothing).
I haven't done any modding, most of my gripes don't seem to have mods and I don't care enough to add any of the gameplay tools. Though I would kill for
