If the game didn't had f2p players, then the experience would be almost the same.

Payed players playing versus others payed players.

Basically people with properly built decks versus other people with properly built decks.

It's a more skill based ladder that way.

Artifact for example, never had population problems by gatekeeping the game with a $40 entry cost.
