>Tolkien, creates a book with a story that is still remember countless of years later and shaped the genre itself as it is and countless of other things within it; main motivation being he wanted to create some kind of myth for his country that he loved the same way other countries and cultures had theirs and weaved in truths about the human nature from within the Bible, as he was a staunch Catholic and knew of all those things in depth, leading to a story that truly speaks to people's hearts in its honesty and beauty when showing evil for what is and good for what it is.
>George Martin, creates a book with a story that did nothing but influence everything within the genre following its release to try and emulate it while constantly failing and the whole story itself isn't even finished, neither will it ever be, and the show that was based off the books ended in such a way that it disappointed everyone and kill all discussions for it; his main motivation being that he had a huge hate boner for Tolkien and wanted to specifically write something that is "anti-Tolkien" in everything that it stands, meaning, there is no distinction between good and evil, everything is morally grey, there was no sex in Tolkien's books, so in his, there be lots of explicit sex scenes and other nasty vile descriptions of people having diarrhea and other shit like that, there is absolutely nothing in it speaking to the base human nature since the whole idea is based on cynicism and nihilism from George's own morality and view of life that he made up in his own mind, which doesn't resonate with anyone, it's all made up for show and shock value.
Tolkien is remember and will continue to we way into the future while Martin will die and his story will be forgotten by all, baring the few times it might be brought up as an example to how you DON'T go about doing this type of stuff and how NOT to write things.
