While you're right about that, I think the Hypixel team specifically said they wanted to make the game in Java because of moddability. Notch, meanwhile, wrote Minecraft in Java because that's what he knew. And it's not like people were clamoring to play it on phones back in 2011. I certainly can't blame Notch for not having the foresight to hire a large team on day 1 for his untested idea, and I think Hypixel's original goal was admirable
