I can see your point of view, especially
> If I was being honest I doubt I would get along with 90% of the cast in real life. A lot of them are the types I know to find insuferable,
because I feel that as well, but the pessimist in me simply refuses to accept it as intentional and more like the author is just writing stuff expecting it to be silly goofy non-offensive behavior because it's a silly goofy game (and the non-goofy parts are always very clearly separated and marked, there's no Amalgamate journaling going on while you're on a date with Papyrus, basically). Maybe I'm just too autistic and take the dumb furry game too seriously outside of when the dumb furry musician wants me to take it seriously, I dunno. Maybe I'm just used to games taking their writing more seriously all the time instead of Earthbound Depression RPG tonal whiplash and brushing aside what would be pretty big issues to actual human beans. Sometimes I feel like I'm just not the target audience, but like- I liked Undertale. Undertale is fuckin' great. Why isn't Deltarune 'hitting' the same way? Purely from over-analyzing the main characters? Is it BECAUSE half the game is in a more realistic and grounded setting, the same thing that might make other people get MORE invested into it because they can imagine going to Hometown School and sitting behind Noelle or whatever?
