A whole bunch of them did get killed though. I don't even think that's really why we fought Nazi Germany. I don't think it was the overriding thing. For the Jews in America, certainly, but I'm not actually quite sure what the American public in general (or American elites) thought about the Third Reich's antisemitism at the time during the actual 1930s/1940s. Or maybe it was like "they persecute the Jews and that's bad" but it was among the many bad things that Americans believed about Germany and the ~crazy dictator~ they had with his army of goosetepping, monocle-wearing autismos.
