Ironically enough, Secretariat lost a few times in his career due to other factors like injury. Sham, the horse that placed second to Secretariat in the Derby and the Preakness did post the second best Derby time that also holds to this day. In the Belmont, his rider was instructed to pace chase Secretariat because the field was so small. Most trainers scratched/didn't enter because they knew their horse had no shot. You can see Sham fade going into the final turn because Secretariat was running such a fast pace and he couldnt hold onto it for such a long distance. A perfect UMA about always being second best and overshaddowed by a champion.
