David Lynch called it the art life.
You persist on very little, isolated and undistracted. Disappearing into your work for months at a time, sustaining yourself on coffee and cigarettes and one meal a day, but you're in that creative headspace non stop. You live very cheaply almost like a neet or a monk, but you're more productive making art than you would be at any job.
You wake in the morning ready to draw and paint and don't stop until the early hours. Everything is hyperfocused on the work and the hours that go into the art and everything else sort of fits around that huge chunk of time if it can. It can be a lonely life but you'll never find a place where you make better quality of work.
Lynch talked about living in Baltimore in the slum housing where poor blacks lived and working on macabre and abstract fine art paintings. What little contact with the outside world he did have was few and far between. On the one occasion he did bring a girl back to his place, she immediately freaked out as he took her into his subterranean studio basement full of weird art and ran away in fear. His family thought he had legitimately gone nuts. It can be a weird way to exist and the vast majority of people aren't going to understand, but there is a precedent for this kind of way of living.
