Was Couscous popular in the early 2000s?

I’m watching how it’s made and they’re saying that couscous is becoming an increasingly more popular alternative to rice and pasta and that you can buy packages of couscous that come with cans of vegetables and sauce

As a sooner this seems pretty weird. At all the grocery stores I’ve gone to all the couscous was pearl/israeli variety and hidden from view at the top of the shelf

Was couscous more popular in the 2000s?
