The lengths people go to justify their refusal to ever wear a mask while coughing and sneezing goopy phlegm all over everyone around them is pretty funny. It's basic hygiene, always has been.
Nobody actually believes masks "stops covid", it's to stop you from spreading germs. That's how it's always worked. Also why surgeons wear masks too.
