The manifesto was (self admittedly) a simplified version of Ellul's "the technological society". The point of the manifesto wasn't meant to be some deep philosophical work, it was meant to have a clear-cut message, that anyone could understand and act upon. His other works such as anti-tech revolution: why and how are more complicated.
Also his work on self-perpetuating systems, is interesting and fairly unique
