Sonic and Surge leapt out of Eggman's airship. Debris and explosions surround them. Another win. Surge is exhausted, Sonic carries her down as they descend.
She looks at him. After everything, he was there for her. He didn't judge her, he didn't hold a grudge against her. He was so effortlessly... Sonic. She had never seen anything so beautiful in her life.
Surge can't take it anymore. Just as another fallen engine went barreling past them, she shouted at the top of her lungs:

"I LOVE YOU, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG"

It was loud, but the explosions and wind turbulence were louder. Sonic couldn't hear a thing.

"What was that?" Sonic barked, confused. Surge was overjoyed to have it out of her system and playfully gnawed his ear, much to his annoyance.
