Yes. Well for full context: Chappu signed on to join the Crusaders who partnered with the Al Bhed to fight Sin. Chappu was childhood friends with Wakka and Yuna, also he was dating Lulu. So it hurt them all for him to not only leave, but he also left behind the sword Wakka got for him in exchange for an Al Bhed weapon. The Crusaders fight Sin and Chappu's unit gets vaporized.

I don't know if Chappu died before or after her previous 2 Pilgrimages. But by the time of Yuna's pilgrimage, Lulu was numb to loss. So it took a lot for her to open up to Wakka. But she wouldn't get pregnant by him for 2 more years.
