Inferior to romance side plots in non-romance manga. You just kneecap yourself trying to write a story that explicitly focuses on romance since it forces you to predictably pace the relationship in line with the story length. Also, since there's no real conflicts in a SOL rom com setting, it has to be artificially made by cheap means like misunderstandings and/or romantic rivals.
