He felt dangerous and ominous in ME1, talking to him in the Normandy he would be a total dick towards Shepard a lot of the time (same goes for Wrex), then in ME2/3 Garrus and Wrex are basically different characters, they are literal doormats who always brown tongue you to keep up the "hecking wholesome big bro" archetype.
