One thing I never understood was how is everything metallic in the past? Was it due to the Phase Distorter 3 not only turns the party into robots, but also changes the environment in the past as well? I can understand being metallic when going into the future but the past? Still confuses me.

Guessing wherever Porky went in time, he probably stayed there for who know how long which is why you see him as an old man in the end of Mother 2 while in Mother 3, he is very old(not sure how many years it takes place between M2 and M3) and literally in his death bed.
