The movie could go the Pumpkinhead route. People do something kind of evil or at least criminally thoughtless, and then M3GAN gets loosed upon them in a moment of rage. Then you could have the person who released M3GAN repentant, but unable to fully stop her. You still feel for the people getting killed, but they deserve it.
