I like Cream.

But Cream is not a "core" character and should NEVER be, because she is CREAM. And "Cream" is "Girl Tails" and "Kid Amy". "Sonic" is not in Cream's equation. Sonic Advance 3 makes this loud and clear. The unique team names are:
>Sonic & Tails: Unbreakable Bond
>Sonic & Amy: Lovely Couple?
>Sonic & Knuckles: Fighting Buddies
>Amy & Cream: Team Jubilee

Sonic & Cream do not get a team name, because Cream is not a "Sonic" character, she is an "Amy" character. Her role is "Tails" to Amy's 'Sonic'. Sonic Dream Team's cast is Sonic, Tails & Knuckles + Amy, Cream & Rouge. "Team Sonic" and "Team Rose" (the concept for Team Rose before they brought Shadow back and made Team Dark). Dream Team works because it pairs Sonic & Amy, Tails & Cream, and Knuckles & Rouge.

But as a collective "core cast", it does not work, because Rouge & Cream are not made for Sonic, their primarily roles are as supporting characters for the other supporting characters around Sonic. That degree of separation locks them out of the "Core".
