The One Ring RPG is /tg/ approved. Some anons went as far as to say that it blows away D&Done out of the water, and the writers put great care to adhere to the both the canon of the books but also filling the gaps that might leave for the players to enjoy. It was a success in Kickstarter and the has released various modules and accessories, including for single-player. So it IS possible to have a cool RPG based on the Lord of the Rings. Real problem modern videogame studios are all crap; you will need to assemble an indie-like team to do something decent with the setting that isn't just another Shadow of Mordor ubisoftslop.
