I finished reading 帰るべき場所へ. As a book it was pretty good, not amazing or life-changing, but good. It had a fair amount of action scenes, which aren't my favorite in a book like this when the result is a foregone conclusion. I enjoyed reading about ミニス and the kids' interactions more than I did reading about a bunch of assassins flipping around and throwing knives and stuff. In any case, it was nice getting more of ミニス and a slight redemption arc for フィズ who I always thought was a incorrigible brat in Summon Night 1.

More importantly, I like how the story tied in with Summon Night 2. Like with ミニス's Panic Summon skill, her (warranted) fear of her mother, and also ケルマ getting verbally abused by ミニス just like her brother was. Though in hindsight, it's hard to believe ミニス was able to lose シルヴァーナ's pendant at all considering he(she?) was virtually inseparable from her in the book. If I remember correctly, the game explains this with シルヴァーナ having pity on ユエル and wanting to keep her company? Oh well.
