I simply can't afford to spend $400 on Lego, all at once. I can buy a cool new set for maybe $60 tops (argh why can't this be cheaper?) a set on clearance? it's got a couple of cool things, sure. eventually I might spend $400. but not all at once.
but it's not up to me.

there's nothing "we" can do about it. those ridiculous sets SELL. for whatever reasons. FOMO. Fear Of Missing Out. if you don't buy the $400 set NOW, it will cost you $800 later. it's the only way to get [blank]! the set has piece count, value, new molds, it all sounds logical.
so -people- buy. and Lego will keep doing it. massive profits. minimum effort. I almost want to get a protest sign and picket in front of the Lego Store. "Don't Support $HUNDREDS DOLLARS$ sets!"
