what causes someone to spend all their time, cultivating a digital identity around an IP (especially one so closely tied to a single creator), only to go and shit on that creator, IP, and everyone who likes it? last thread i saw someone say that this is midlife crisis behaviour and i can believe that. but i'm disappointed by discourse. i wish people could enjoy the things they like wholeheartedly instead of trying to pretend to be someone they aren't by liking them "ironically" or with a level of critical detachment that makes them appear to hate the thing(s) they spend all of their time on. an honest 35 year old sonic fanboy is a thousand times more tolerable than these sad saps who spend all of their time hating the things they used to love. rather than expanding into new territory and loving new things, they just turn into piles of vitriolic hate for that which they loved. i've been watching superbunnyhop stream for the past year and a bit and he does the same shit. the last few weeks he has been playing death stranding, claiming he is part of the "defense force" for the game, but spends all his time while playing shitting on the game for not making sense (and it only doesn't make sense because the necessary information needed to truly understand it is seen as "cringe" to him).
