I spent a couple hours taking her almost entirely apart. Even took the bolt apart, and I'm glad I did as it was FULL of cosmoline. It looked like somebody had actually just packed it in there with a grease gun or something. Some Mean Green and elbow grease cleaned it out. I used some heavyish lucas oil to coat all the parts for lubrication and protection then put it back together. Cleaned the bore. The rifling is tired, but still distinct, though the grooves are pitted. I gave the stock and hand guard a light coat of linseed oil; the wood felt dry. It sucked most of it right up and I wiped away what little oil stayed on the surface. I've got a few boxes of S&B 173 grain that claims to clock in at 2379 fps. AFAIK that's pretty damn close to the original military loading for the rifle. I'm not expecting a lot given the bore, but I'm hoping for better than minute of man. Sometime soon (next few days I hope) I'll find out at the range.
