Memetchi failed as a mascot because there's no real theme to her design. It's too humanoid for quirky creature OG fans, but also not humanoid enough so her single hair strand and massive-lashed eyes come off as ugly for people who like cute aesthetics. The genuine appeal is niche despite being pushed as a mascot. It became pretty obvious with the Entama that they didn't know what to do with her either, since Mamezoku and Kuchizoku all had thematic consistency with one another but Memezoku was filled with random scraps that have no visual or thematic cohesion with her at all (funnily, the males in her lineup, Shimashimatchi and Togetchi, ended up becoming much more popular than her).
