There is a reason the non-alt version costs only $3 obviously. Pretty much everyone I know who has any amount of the cards from the set, myself included, try to use the alts as much as possible for the better art. I stuck together a deck based around Cecil from FF4 to play mememander with my friends who play MTG and fuck his normal art looks bad on his paladin side.
