When it comes to cars especially I guess one big reason is that people can't afford anything anymore. Most new cars are company cars/leasing what ever. And even if they somehow have to money to purchase one they go for more conservative colors because they already have to think about resale value.
Cheaper models actually do come in nice colors, love the new Opel models/colors, they are cheap, crappy 3 zylinder cars, but people can actually affor them and buy them in nice colors they actually like. Love the gold like pic realted the small SUV also has a very nice bright green that you see quite often...
