The music hard carries this franchise. If not for the soundtrack, Toby Fox would be bagging my fries.

Spicy take but I honestly believe that this game series never would have become popular if not for the music.
Everything else about the game, whether it's the writing, art, characters, or gameplay, is mediocre to just outright bad. I swear if Toby Fox wasn't a musical genius he'd be bagging fries right now.
The writing in the game is the worst part, it's Adventure Time lolsorandomholdsupsporkkadoink bullshit but framed within an "emotional" narrative. The writing is usually stuff like "And then the hero's face became a butt. But it was the butt... of DESTINY!" and then the music goes off into some epic rock opera as you shoot laser farts of destiny out of your face. It's childish and marred entirely by the fact that it constantly undermines its own premise for the sake of quirkiness, and the premise is literally nothing. Some kid falls into a hole. Meets a bunch of wacky characters specifically designed to cater to porn addicted tumblrites. Climbs out of hole. The end.
