They're morally wrong because if I come up with a patented idea independently and try to profit off it I'm not allowed, and it's considered as if a theft took place when it objectively didn't. Free markets flourished long before IP laws became commonplace.

Your picture provides no proof of this, considering US military vehicle designs don't even have publicly available patents. They're effectively treated as regular old state secrets, thanks to the US Invention Secrecy Act. And anyways, if they didn't enforce patents, there would be no incentive to apply for a patent, yet they get over one million applications per year.
