that's what we're told, but it's not what we see, for budget reasons: the movie costume department is actually quite underfunded. the main reason why we have Ewoks is because they couldn't afford full-size Wookie suits, so we had to have the whole princess-discovers-primitive-species-who-defeat-Empire arc because the costume budget could only afford pint-size chibi-Wookies!

but animation models are still expensive, even in the 00s era.

so the only place we get to see the SW universe as it should be, with armies of different species involved, is novels and comics.
