depends on race fantasy appeals to you best when you're actually out and about running around with them and fighting stuff.
being an orc charging around, a wall of green muscle, and taking the brunt of the battle for your team is neat.
an undead warrior could look a variety of ways, a badass mangled warrior, a dark and evil looking rotting brigand, or a freaky mouthless zombie with funny hair running around getting the enemy's attention.
a human could be pretty much anything, we are one and could picture one in all sorts of ways, a generic fighter? honorable warrior with glitzy armor? a hunk of metal that doesn't seem like it's even human? it'd need some work but it has the highest creative ceiling.
goblin sounds like an odd choice but every race, gender, and class combo works despite whatever is the norm for a class or race. it's just hard to say since this is the most personal choice you can make in a game, who exactly is your little guy? when I first played the choice felt obvious, I knew what I liked and which class sounded best to try out.
for a more objective answer focus on what would get least tiring after hitting max and grinding stuff for a few months. you really want a generic human female voice for your actions? do you really want a small goblin character model? when you're standing next to a bunch of players will you feel satisfied with your choice or do you think you might see an orc or a human standing out to you during questing or a battleground and wonder if you should've chosen that race instead?

fair enough, usually I just think of the writing team and head honchos when I remember that time. makes sense if everything in every part just shits the bed too, just kinda assumed that area design would be the easier department since every functioning brain should have a sense of what looks good vs not. I might have too high of expectations for modern blizzard.
speaking of that time, does classic still have the old flirt lines and pre fruit basket images or did they have enough braincells to remember to cut those out in that version too?

the worst part is that they CANNOT go five minutes without mentioning their special little titles for special little people. they have to say they're trans, they have to imply they're gay with the most obvious and forced "jokes", they have to bring up trump and modern politics. all unprompted. I was playing a week ago with a few random chuddies in chat, I had no idea that they were that though. why? they never once mentioned anything right leaning until after one of the loonies forced another spiel that implies that they are in fact gay, liberal, and hate conservatives. then the chat just flooded with george droyd jokes and ragebait, was fun until they got bored or left and the trannies kept reaffirming themselves in chat even after an hour from the last rarebit message.
why? what compels them to think about us 24/7? why do they write their power fantasies in wow's chat? why are they so fucking annoying?
