>XVI is not Final Fantasy
Over time, I came to appreciate the story of XVI more and appreciate the combat system less. Played this game with difficulty mods yet even they can't salvage some fundamentally retarded design choices devs made. Most of the time, there is unending battle with camera, not with enemies. XVI's camera is not just bad at rotating, it constantly takes control away from the player (cinematic dodge! cinematic kill! cinematic slop! whoa cinematic Vanille's ass!), and this just turns crowd control into a literal torture. Oh and by the way enemies can attack being outside of the frame.
Bosses do not pose a threat even with increased health and attack, cause their moves are easy to predict and dodge/parry windows are very generous. The only source of problems in the game with mods is squads of normal mobs + large enemies with a will bar: a normal mob can come from behind and kill you with a couple of stabs (being off camera) while you are focused on a large enemy, and this is the only thing you should care about. Pack of regular mobs - easy. Enemy with a will bar - easy. Most of the bosses - easy. Pack of mobs + enemy with will bar - very hard.
The simplest algorithm for destroying these aforementioned squads is to:
I) Group mobs with leviathan ability "Cross Swell" (locked behind DLC) and destroy them all en masse ASAP,
II) switch attention to a massive enemy with a will bar, which alone does not pose any threat.
Basically the hardest battles in the game can be reduced to:
A) Leviathan shooting and dodging spam, which is very effective against....everyone ( Vanilleover ),
B) aforementioned algorithm.
Fundamentally, the combat system in the game is broken, it should be changed in many ways. Bad, no, retarded camera! Predictive enemy behaviour. Limit on the number of active abilities. Balanced for toddlers. Even if you play with difficulty mods, the winning algorithm is very straightforward and universal.
