Killing the rival in the final fight and have him give the protagonist the push to win is frankly kind of ballsy in this day and age. Horikoshi killed Bakugo only to revert it and Megumi (I guess?) just survived Sukuna and Unlimited Void because of course he did. Letting the deuteragonist die to fuel the protagonist to win feels like something classic, like you'd see in Fist of the North Star or other 80s Jump manga.
