One thing I have some lost nostalgia for is that era of future-forward modernism.

The Soviets obviously didn't like the U.S. gaining an edge over them in the Space Race but there was an ideological belief that it was a progressive advancement for humanity in general, which helped serve as a basis for joint U.S.-Soviet space cooperation in the 1970s. Most people who argue for/against communism today are edgelords, they don't really have a sense of the beliefs and language of the time, which was something closer and more similar to 1950s Americana and the futurism of the time than anything today.

I obviously didn't live there but that's just my impression reading about it. Rendered in a utopian way would be Atomic Heart but that game was made by a Russian so I think he "got" the vibe:
