I honestly think it got such high score reviews precisely because it's "wacky", "out there" and "artsy". Video game reviewers and journalists are so desperate for video games to be seen as this legitimate art form like cinema, so when a game like this comes along it gets propped up to be this amazing work of art rivalling cinema. DS2 is supposed to be video games' "Brazil", "Being John Malkovich" or some other critically acclaimed wacky and surreal movie.
