It's easier to look at this as everyone shitting on these types of games when it's not made by Kojima, rather than Kojima made a game that is lauded.

Whilst I'm not sure about the mechanical side of it in DS specifically, this stuff also existed in the old Metal Gear games. He just makes fun games with enjoyable nonsense in them (but it's apparent he can go off the wall depending on how he feels, not to mention the insane amount of real life figures is a little insane).

I think my issue is that DS was initially sold to me as an intriguing sci-fi world with good dramatic storytelling since it had mads and lea in it and those initial teasers were really cool. but then I play it and the story is dogshit with stupid names and there's constant interjections of stupid goofy shit from whatever kojima was into that day, and all the scifi is handwaved with le chiralium like how he does in ALL his games. it's like he gave up internally on the idea that he could do something serious that could really grip people, so he compensates with the constant gags and tension deflaters so people keep paying attention.

Not at all. The thing that makes games art lies in the depth of feeling that gameplay can bring out. In this case, you're made to feel the rigor of delivering packages on foot across a hostile environment. The cutscene nonsense though looks tacky as fuck and I personally wouldn't consider it to add much to the artistic merit of the game.

So, is it over for Kojima? The game's barely discussed save for its controversial elements despite being out for less than a week. To me, it seems like the only scenario in which DS2 wins GOTY is everyone taking pity on Kojima, remembering how upset he was when the prequel didn't make it.
However, Konami has two rather anticipated releases this year, one of which is a remake of one of Kojima's most famous games. Konami's been shat on long enough, so everyone will probably be rooting for its engoodening. Its downfall began when Kojima got fired, meaning that if DS2 wins GOTY it'll be like signalling Konami that nobody's forgotten one of its biggest fuck ups, undermining its redemption arc.
Finally, whe have E33, which came out of nowhere and is universally acclaimed. Giving this game GOTY would mean that no one is picking sides between Kojima and Konami, on top of it being a good title that doesn't sacrifice good gameplay in flavor of being a cinematic experience. This would also pave a road for more JRPGs made outside Japan as dumb as it sounds. I suppose it's the most probable winner.
