I always wondered how sympathetic she was intentionally supposed to be because honestly she seemed pretty fucking sympathetic, like the movie was going out of its way to portray her as the most lovable possible version of a cannibalistic incest loving devil worshipping fish monster

It sorta makes the bleak ending pay off because it's a happy ending for her, like she's an awful and inhuman Thing but there's no visceral indication that she doesn't deserve to be happy
