There's some heavier hitters coming later this year at least. Not banking on all of these but looking forward to some of them.
>Jurassic World Rebirth (2 July)
>Hot Spring Shark Attack (11 July)
>I Know What You Did Last Summer (July 18)
>Weapons (August 8)
>Shelby Oaks (August 22)
>Toxic Avenger (August 29)
>The Conjuring: Last Rites (5 Sept)
>HIM (Sept 19)
>The Strangers: Chapter 2 (26 Sept)
>Hell House LLC: Lineage (Oct)
>V/H/S 8 (Oct)
>The Black Phone 2 (17 Oct)
>Frankenstein (Nov)
>Predator: Badlands (November 7)
>Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (5 Dec)
>Silent Night, Deadly Night (Dec)
>Anaconda (25 Dec)
>Return of the Living Dead (2025)
Saw XI and Silent Hill not making the year is disappointing. At least SH will come out 2026.

It already came out as a small release in theaters, but I'm most excited to see Dangerous Animals (serial killer/shark movie by the director of The Loved Ones and The Devil's Candy), along with Weapons and possibly The Black Phone 2.
A lot of marketing material wasn't in the movie. I thought she was going to emerge from the dancing silhouette in the end credits and do this wink, but it didn't happen.
The gay dude from the trailer talking about how she was a warrior princess wasn't in it either... definitely for the better imo.

On a similar Wan note, excuse me for sounding like a fragile faggot redditor, but the more I think about it, the more The Conjuring bothers me
"Based on a true story" is always nonsense, 100x so in a horror movie, but it just sits wrong that Ed and Lorraine Warren were two of the most ruthless self-aggrandizing con artists in American history and the movies depict them as these brave, romantic, all-loving heroes
It'd be like if there were a ten movie, $3 billion franchise about Elizabeth Holmes and Tammy Faye Baker preventing terrorist attacks and saving children from sex traffickers and that ended up being the only """historical""" reference most people would ever have for them

If it makes you feel any better, M3gan: Soulm8te (Soulmatey?) will almost certainly be much closer to the genre, "A grieving widower buys a robot wife and then she starts murdering people"
Them making it a star vehicle for the new Evil Dead Girl seems on the nose, too
Also nobody mention Companion or Subservience or Wifelike or whatever because this shit is 100% Deadly Friend

Don't get me wrong, the movie was shit, the design was awful and recasting Brad Dourif was blasphemy
But I really enjoyed the angle in the Child's Play remake that Chucky actually loved Andy and considered him his best friend and every brutal thing he did stemmed from that
That little concept by itself feels like it has more substance to it than the real Chucky just being the biggest cunt possible, all of the time, and frankly fucking hating the kid from first sight while concocting an elaborate scheme to troll him to death

The original concept was that Andy was (unintentionally?) controlling the doll, but they decided that made him seem evil.
His only goal was to find a new body before he got trapped in the doll, so I think the fact he never deviated from being evil or started to like the kid made sense.

I have absolutely nothing to back this up but I swear M3gan's screenplay has the remnants of an edgier prior version in it where Cady committed all the murders herself and possibly even kills Gemma at the end
They drop little hints that the kid is absolutely fucked in the head and then they backpedal to she's actually a pretty normal person that's just surviving an incomprehensible trauma

Blob 88 is among the peak of 80s horror, so why hasn't it gained the same cult classic status that The Thing has in the last decade or so?

It has a couple of terrific equally gnarly sfx scenes but there's nothing in the script that grips as hard as The Thing
The Thing really is a powerful film, having such a strong storyline backed up by so much onscreen spectacle. Most movies only get one of those things, a lot of movies get neither.

I think the weak parts of it come back to the fact it's a remake of a 50s sci fi (which I haven't actually seen). But actually we can kill it with liquid nitrogen and actually it's a govt experiment doesn't feel as strong now.
I think it would be stronger if it actually was like The Thing... just an outer space blob and they killed it with a firey explosion.
The SFX are still fantastic though. Some of them have so much aggression to them, they are my go to example of how practical effects mog the fuck out CGI.

Get to it, Anon. I actually prefer the original, just as I do with Invasion of the Body Snatchers. While the special effects aren't as sophisticated (though still very good for the time), the 1950s small town setting, in my opinion, makes for a superior flick

The Thing is also a remake of a 1950's movie. So is Cronenberg's The Fly.
Main reason why The Blob isn't highly regarded as the other two is because its a comedy horror.

>Even though 28 Years Later had a harsher drop, this follows it earning the best opening weekend of the franchise by far. Therefore, its second weekend's raw total is nearly as high as the original movies' domestic debuts. In fact, it has already outgrossed both those movies worldwide, having reached a global total of $73.6 million as of Friday.

Also looking this up for this post, all of them surprised me in some way. I thought Days would have a much higher box office; it's one of those iconic movies everybody on earth has seen. I thought Weeks would have a dramatically higher budget; it's got Hollywood actors and massive fancy action setpieces.
But as a piece of heartless capitalism Years has shit the bed. I also expect Bone Temple to be a disaster simply because I cannot imagine Nia Decosta ever making anything that isn't a disaster, it's like going "I trust Uwe Boll this time"

Well at the end it very much justified the slow buildup, it all came together really well in a way that benefited from that slow start, would still want the sequel to be faster though.
Visuals wise I'm not sure the bits with the jerky movement sort of like an exorcism movie quite worked though. Took you out of the scene too much because it looked like it belonged to a different flavour of monster.

I think it'll have a decent tail in theaters unless they drop the bluray and put it on streaming in a month or whatever, but it'll do super well on home media either way.
They dropped the first movie in January competing against nothing, they should've just done that again. 2.0 will clear a small profit at the very least.

The cutting scenes are hard to watch despite the fact they're not very graphic.

How would that make me a loser? I can go on vacation whenever I want, I wouldnβt need to do βfunβ stuff during summer. Their βsummer vacationβ is pretty much my whole life. How does that make me a loser? lol. Almost all people older than me are worthless than me lol.

I do all that too, I live rent-free at my grandma's house, I haven't had a job in 10 years, and she pays me 50 dollars every week to do chores once or twice, and I'm the only one who drives her car (which I also don't pay any bills for).
And I'm also not a fucking ESL like you, so actually I win.

Best one so far must be Inside.

yeah this movie was made me squirm and yell at her crazy ass. its horror like this that makes horror today feel vain and shallow. its fucking intense. the only real criticism i have for this film is that its a writer actor director credit. her having this fantastical life beside the body horror feels masturbatory to me. the saving grace for that iircwas at least she threw her life away to cut herself to ribbons. that bit where she runs a knife over her eye FUCK

I think it is funny that Cole's role was definitively bigger than Tess's when they were at the same level previously.

Also, it was supposed to be an ambiguous scene. Is she fucking with him? Is she sincere? Is she even flirting?
In the end, I do think it was supposed to be a sincere apology while being a little being cheeky about it. The awkward hand thing at the end I think points in that direction.

I get this feeling with just about everything that uses any kind of historical fact. The consensus view of a bunch of historical figures is just hollywood bullshit.
