Smart people often lean in to talk about religion being good or true is due to the realization that religion is a necessary evil. Some, if not most people would literally kill their neighbours if not for the fear of an omni-present entity. Fear is the most powerful tool in human history.
Put simply, it keeps people in check. Therefore, while disputing religion is pretty damn easy as it relies heavily on biases set in the human nature of grasping for a sense of purpose and absolution, going up against religion is not a smart move at all when you realize that people -quite simply- need to be controlled or some would just kill themselves to an even greater degree and who would be left to work the fields and such then?
