i don't think 4-5 years is a crazy gap personally, but like i said it's up to you really whether you think that means there can be no romance in the future
personally i think the two of them pushing past that problem is in fact an interesting story all on its own, especially if you work with the potential story beat of dess having not aged during her time as the lost girl
