I think the 2D Disgaea games are pretty underrated. The amount of depth, characters, items and mechanics really aren't matched by any other JSRPG out there. Even FFT felt kind of mid after playing through the series! I could be a little biased though, since Disgaea features my angel wife who I love so very very much, Flonne!
