I'm trying to figure out how to measure OAL for a rifle with a folding stock to make sure any rifles I want to buy aren't going into (IIRC) AOW territory. I remember hearing multiple things in the past but from what I've read in multiple ATF documents it seems you measure rifles with folding or collapsing stocks with the stock fully extended as repeatedly it's mentioned that since it's a rifle, it's designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder. However, I can't seem to find a clear answer in written law like 18 USC, only various ATF documents. Here in form 5310.1, page 6, it seems that the ATF agrees in measuring OAL with the stock extended as well as in an excerpt of a 2019 document clarifying their stance on braces at that time (there was a mention of how measuring braced pistols differs from measuring a rifle). Also it does seem that the WASR underfolder on Atlantic, RI3321-N, is 25 3/4" when folded, which further makes me think what little I found is correct. Any anons have better documents or excerpts from 18 USC that are clearer?
