Is there anything I can do about this on a Remshit 870? There are several spots like it on the receiver, but I can barely feel them and steel wool isn't helping. Will heating it up help?

0000 steel wool, oil, and some elbow grease. The spots will remain but it'll knock the surface rust off.

They haven't really gotten any worse in a while, so I think the surface rust has stopped, but I was wondering if there's any way to get rid of the spots.

I was thinking of putting some Super Blue on the whole receiver.

depends on what you are willing to do. My recommendation would be to degrease the receiver with acetone or similar, then apply rust bluing compound on it, let it get an even layer of surface rust, then boil it to convert to black oxide and card it off, do this a few times.

OP here.

Mine is from somewhere around 2017, well after they fucked up their finishing process. My dad has a 20 gauge 870 Wingmaster from probably the 70's and the finish is still wonderful, even though he's never been the most diligent about cleaning and oiling.

You should put it outside one day and take a time lapse video of it rusting, then post on /k/ for our entertainment.

Boil it. No really. It'll convert the lowest stuff but you may still have to knock off the loose stuff. May still look ugly but it's worth a shot. Also I'll have to look up the guide again but is it a (IIRC) post-2007 gun because if so they like to rust. A lot.

That's weird; I have a '95 IIRC that I haven't had trouble with and was a Less Lethal police shotgun so you know it got zero oil 99% of the time it's been around. Then again it's an 870 Police and they're parked instead of blued so that may explain it.

Reading up on the Blish lock in Thompson SMGs, it seems like even from the beginning the lock's usefulness was questioned. Is there any reason it took until the military's request to simplify the guns for it to be removed. It seems like something that production people would have already been looking at removing to cut costs for civilian sale guns.

With how things were made back then removing something from the line is actually wasting money.
Each cut would be done on different machines. You remove that cut then all the specialized tooling to do that cut is now useless. You spent a shitload of money on that tool and never broke even on it.

The Blish lock did work, it just didn't work the way Blish thought it did. Blish thought that the coefficient of friction between two surfaces varied based on pressure. That is not true, friction is simply linear. However, friction is still present. The blish lock is basically a friction-delayed blowback. Not non-linear friction the way Blish thought, but just plain 'ol normal friction. For the gun to work with the Blish Lock removed you'd have to make the bolt heavier or you'd have to add some kind of other sort of delay mechanism to take the place of the mass and friction created by the brass locking piece.

...hit post too soon.
So, yeah, the Blish lock was pretty shitty and overly complicated, but fixing it was a bit more complicated than just deleting it. They'd have to change up the design in other ways. Using the existing design on existing tooling might have made more financial sense than the big up-front costs for new tooling, even if the design was more economical to manufacture long term. Like >>63846140 explains it's not like guns of that era were made on CNC machines where you can tweak the design by changing code. They had specialized machines set up for each individual cut. I'd also imagine that in the time in question industrial machine tools were a hot commodity, very much in demand not just in the US but also for its allies. The output of plants making machine tools was limited, they might have needed those people working on machinery other than those for making cheap Thompsons.

Compared to a straight-walled cartridge of the same size (same amount of powder) the bullet is lighter so it goes much faster. Compared to a straight-walled cartridge of the same caliber the necked cartridge usually has a lot more powder.

I'm asking about why it wasn't deleted **before** WW2, so the hot commodity for US and allies was lesser (I know not totally not a factor but lesser).
But then, for WW2 production the Blish lock was very quickly deleted and production was run on it.
>>63846140
While I understand the U.S. government is a different kind of customer, the lock was deleted and production on the new design was started very quickly. Also this addresses all theoretical problems with removing it since simply making the bolt beaver did actually just work

How realistic is an armed security job? This is in the US, of course. From what I've seen seen it's pretty easy but I don't interact with them much as a driver. How shitty is the pay and can I get away with it with no actual leo/mil/criminal experience?

Now that I think about it, I'd imagine it's analogous to the truck safety inspections. They don't want to hear about it unless it will definitely get people killed or get them sued. Kind of like that?

What caliber should I get in a bolt action? I am wanting to get into hunting with my brother and wasn't sure which route to go. I'm heavily considering .308 for the distance and power (not to mention I don't have anything of that caliber in my collection) but have also see bolt actions in 300 blkout. I've heard its a meme but I also don't plan on suppressing...unless I should. I'm sorry if I am posting in wrong thread, I couldn't find long distance thread anywhere.

If you have to ask, go with 308 as it's easy to find and cheap. There are better performing calibers but if you're posting that question here the price and availability will benefit you more than performance.
At anything but the highest skill levels there is no difference in accuracy between bolt and a modern semi auto.
Other things to consider:
What are you hunting and what are the local laws? Where I'm currently at, meme straight wall cartridges are legal to hunt with despite violating the spirit of the law.
I had a coworker who swore by some fucking 7mm cartridge for deer, but he was a goofball so I didn't commit the exact one to memory. There's a lot of options.
I would avoid 300 black out simply because of the non zero chance of an ammo mix up blowing up your ar, unless you had a use case for it, but you don't. If you really want to minmax and don't care about price and available that much, go with 6.5 creedmoore. It's like .308 but with less drop, of you don't mind it being marginally hate to find and more expensive.
If you want to round out your collection with a .308 there's more interesting options.
Does that help at all?

Changing tooling costs money, it cost money back then it costs money now.
The changing of the tooling is not gratis, it will cost you. The government was often stingy when it came to retooling as every budget change needed verification and bookkeeping.
Often not changing the tooling for a short batch was well worth it even with waste material as the beurocratic cost wasn't worth it unless you had dinner with a guy that week who'd cut past it all.

Also it seems (their website isn't the best) you need a ten round mag or less.
It's so poorly worded I can't tell if there's a caliber restriction or not. It technically says it has to be over 40 cal, but I'm sure that only applies to muzzle loaders. The site literally says non muzzle loading guns are prohibited but then says 11 round semi auto is okay, stay away from KC and don't fucking shoot a swan.

NV question here since theres no /nvg/gers thread atm

If I am cross eye dominant(right handed, left eye dominant) which eye do I wear my PVS14 over?

I am told that the army teaches that you should wear the NV over your left eye in case you need to use white light to shoot your rifle normally, but I assume this is intended with right handed and right eye dominant shooters in mind because they are the overwhelming majority

does cross eye dominance give me an advantage here? since I can have my monocular over my dominant eye and still be used to shooting right handed?

I'm sorry I misspoke - the .22 Spitfire and the .30 carbine are the same case base diameter, and .22 Spitfire brass is made from .30 Carbine. So if I'm asking about cases for a wildcat, what use is the .22 Spitfire if I'd have to make it from .30 Carbine - especially when I've already said that I'm looking for a case that has a different base diameter than the .30 Carbine?

Notice that my original image contains a 5.7x28 round. That probably indicates that I'm aware of the existence of the 5.7 given that I'm asking a question about wildcatting and base diameter and not something retarded like "what's the coolest bullet to shoot?" The point is - and to clarify my question for a third time - OTHER THAN 5.7, .30 CARBINE AND ALL THEIR DERIVATIVES are there any centerfire RIFLE cases with a smaller case base diameter than .223 Rem?

So imagine I'm asking if there's a centerfire RIFLE cartridge with a case base diameter SMALLER than .308 and .30-06 for the purpose of making a wildcat, and you were to then reply with:

"Off the top of my head, 7.62 Tok and .270 Winchester"

...can you see how given the context of the words I specifically typed out to provide that context that those answers are literally what I said I'm not looking for? Because one is not generally considered to be a rifle round and the other has the same case base diameter as one of the cartridges I specifically mentioned? It's the same scenario for my original question. Great.

So one more time, extra clearly:

EXCLUDING CARTRIDGES WHICH ARE USUALLY CONSIDERED PISTOL CARTRIDGES
(E.G. LIKE THE 5.7)...

AND, OTHER THAN .30 CARBINE AND ALL THE CARTRIDGES DERIVED DIRECTLY FROM THE .30 CARBINE CASE,...

...are there any centerfire RIFLE cases which have a smaller case base diameter than .223 Rem? Any at all that are generally considered rifle cases and not .30 carbine or related to .30 carbine?

I don't think there are any restrictions here, you could go with 556, which should be enough for most things in the state. I think 308 or 30-06 is a better option.

what is the proper sight picture for a mav 88? it's got a small ball 1/2 up the barrel and a full size bead at the end, AFAIK some shotguns recommend a "snowman" or "figure 8" sight picture but for this it seems they want the small ball in the middle of the big one?

Not really. The amount of delay due to friction is so low that it has no practical effect. For all intents and purposes, the gun is just straight blowback.

WHAT DO I BUY?

I'm looking for a taper mounting QD muzzle device/mount pair to attach one universal 30 cal can and swap it between five different barrels. What's the best option? Already have the guns and can (DT WLVRN & Hux Ventum)

Priorities:
>actually in stock somewhere
>repeatable PoI shift after mount/dismount
>small PoI shift between mounted/unmounted
>hub compatible
>matte finish (fuck you, Q)
>lowest priority is cost, but it'd be nice to have something not a gorrillion dollars

Seems like silencerco ASR and deadair hub mount are the best according to internet memes but I don't have experience or data to actually quantify that.

Thoughts?

Attaching suppressors on AR9's.

The extra barrel length on 9mm doesn't buy you much if you are using anything but subgun or +p+ ammo and even then it's marginal, usually less than 100FPS going from 2.5" to 10"

Doesn't have a name as far as I know. But ACOGs and MROs use that type of nested interface. If you were looking for mounts for those optics you would just use their name. That is clearly neither though, probably some proprietary chinese bullshit.

If you mean the quick detach lever, then it's just called that, or QD.

Anyone have a good guide to info on British ammo cans? US cans have some guides on can manufacturer and ammo date codes, etc, but I can't find shit on British, though I think I have most manufacturer initials figured out. Mostly 30 cal cans made 1960-2010, no84 mk1. I strangely ran across what I'd estimate a third of a pallet stack of them (stacked around 3-4 high maybe?) for sale and already bought a few. I sat strangely only because I live in the US and have never really seen British cans, especially at the low price I paid.
>anon, anon, check bocn
Yeah I tried that.
>search "ammo can no 84 mk1"
>search results suck ass wtf?
>we have removed the following words from your search as they are either too short or too common: "can no 84 mk1"
>searching for: "ammo"
Seriously what the fuck is this shit? Imagine if arfcom's search decided the words ar15, m16, m16a1, m16a2, m4, carbine, etc. were "too common" and wouldn't all you to search those terms! What retardation. At least I can tell dates as the cans have the year stamped right on them.

The existence of the Leupold DEVO leads me to believe that non-circle cross sections can be done

>6.5x31

Caliber and case length are not the germane dimensions for whether or not a cartridge can feed through the grip. What is the case head diameter and overall length?

Iโ€™ve estimated that itโ€™s possible, through grip geometry optimization and using metal mags and metal front/rear grip straps, to feed a cartridge no longer than 1.8โ€ and with a case head no wider than about 9mm through the grip. And such a grip would be about as deep as that of a mk23 (not wide at all though). Big, and not the most comfy, but grippable.

>is 5.7 the limit

I donโ€™t think so. Iโ€™ve never held nor even seen one but every image and video of the PSA 57 rock shows a comically small grip for the 5.7x28. A comfy looking one too. Like the external volume of the grip can not possibly contain that magazine, yet it does. So make it out of metal (thinner) and make it a bit deeper and you can fit a longer cartridge with a slightly wider case head (a โ€œslightโ€ increase of 1mm in case head diamater represents a ~30% increase in case capacity - not so slight)

>8mm Kurz

Gen 1 intermediates are obsolete, why would you even countenance such an idea?

But I know what you mean. Mag-in-grip with intermediate ballistics. Yeah, this idea tickles my balls too. And it can be done, but requires minmaxing everything, optimization of the gripโ€™s internal and external geometry to squeeze every last millimeter you can for cartridge width and length. And itโ€™s all really only made possible with 80kpsi-capable cases. At lower pressures, you just couldnโ€™t possibly use a case with sufficient volume for >1000ft*lbs and an adequate BC (letโ€™s say G7 >0.13). Energy alone is doable (see: 460 rowland), but at the cost of BC and sectional energy.

This works better in an mp7 type gun, like a telescoped rifle, vs a pistol, since any pistol length barrel is gonna nerf the shit out of the cartridge and the muzzle blast will blind and deafen the shooter. MP7 can use a longer barrel and a silencer without becoming so front heavy itโ€™s impossible to shoot. The stock also extends the range at which you can make hits.

I like to think I have a pretty wide knowledge of cartridges, and I can not think of any centerfire rifle cartridge case head smaller than 9.6mm. 5.56 is really at the lowest end of rifle cartridges. Kinda makes sense since rifles and their ammunition were always fuckhuge until the ~2x scaling down to the .223. And with an entire species of rifle and aftermarket centered around the 9.6mm case head, why would anybody make anything smaller*? 5.56 is already quite diminutive.

*= why would anybody IN THE PAST have made anything smaller. There is value in it now, like duplicating or even slightly improving on 5.56 by using a 30 carbine case head at a higher pressure, and feeding from narrower quad stacks (a mere 0.6mm in case head = 2.3mm narrower quad stack magazine, and +5rds to capacity)

What are you trying to do?

Picrel (7.5FK, 10mm, 40SW, 9mm) Itโ€™s a lengthened 10mm case necked to 30 cal, OAL of like 1.5โ€. 800-900ft*lbs. Chambered in the FK BRNO and PSD. But like I said, getting to 1000ft*lbs isnโ€™t terribly difficult, itโ€™s coupling this energy to a bullet with an adequate BC to still be formidable at 300 yards or so.

I do not have any Glocks.
But I do have a stupid question about Glock magazines.

>Will a Glock 23 magazine reliably feed 9mm in a Glock 19 or 26 if it has a 9mm follower?

The reason I ask this is because I found two Glock 23 magazines in a trash can at the range the other day.
The magazine bodies appear to be fine but only the springs were inside, the followers and baseplates were missing
I somehow don't own any Glocks, but the idea of simply buying some followers and baseplates, and maybe a spring, to have two functioning 9mm mags has given me that damn itch to go buy a used Glock 19 or 26 for a couple hundred bucks.

Thank ye

>>Will a Glock 23 magazine reliably feed 9mm in a Glock 19 or 26 if it has a 9mm follower?
the difference isnt just the follower its the feed lips
that said ive shot 9mm out of normal 40 mags and its been mostly functional. occasionally jams but good enough for range use and still better than the magpul glock mags
the real issue with 9mm in 40 glock mags is its really easy to make the rounds fall out or partially fall out when jarred or dropped. like you pull it out of a pocket and the top rounds not seated.
if its just range use its ok dont drop em but function is fine.
if its carry buy 9mm mags

Is there a system/device that can intercept bombs dropped by bombers? Like how ERA attacks shells and how anti ballistic missiles attack missiles.
I guess you'd need to have them plastered everywhere because the device wouldn't have much time to reach the bomb. Plus maybe detecting a bomb would be quite hard. It's small so you can't use radar, it's cold so you can't use infra, and if done at night, you can't use optical detection.

It's completely doable. Shooting down HARMs with tactical SAMs happens all the time at Red Flag. The biggest issue would just be the fact that lots of systems aren't designed to look/shoot "up" and gravity bombs tend to fall pretty much "down". But if you could predict the future and know that a highly technological military fielded by a nation of genetically superior WASPs was going to drop 12x massive gravity bombs on your sovereignty insurance facilities from undetectable bombers, planning on shooting down the bombs would be a reasonable way forward.

Thought I'd post this because this channel popped up on my YT recommended because I had watched his 10/22 mag polishing videos when I was having some issues (which IMO turned out to be dirty ammo + silencer = need much more cleaning). Looks like, if your gun is parkerized, you may need to just refinish if you want those spots gone. I tend to have problems with thick rust spots like those on blued guns too; may have to just refinish and repark. youtube.com/watch?v=C2hBwJe3bnY

Iirc, Thompsons were made in one big batch in 1920ish and all sales came from this lot until ww2 when euros started looking for SMGs quickly and in volume. There were variants but these were all refits to already made guns.

I suppose they could have made changes to the gun before the second production run, but they didnt until they were pressured for the US army contract.

It's not like the brits had other options, and they were paying in gold until they managed to clone the mp28 as the Lanchester, then simplify it into the sten.

with the surge of plates being commonplace on the battlefield that can stop most cartridges from standard issue rifles, is it possible there will be a sort of return to SMGs?
with all that extra weight they have to carry as armor, night vision, quality of life stuff, etc. in combination with needing a higher volume of fire to deal with hitting gaps in ballistic armor, it seems like the average soldier would much prefer to run around with a smaller gun that can hold more ammo for the same amount of weight
and i'm talking mostly about like the situation in ukraine, where soldiers are living off what they can carry on both sides as opposed to the way the US usually does things where we have a near endless logistics chain

No because it reduces the effective range too much. Battlefields are unpredictable. Sure an SMG might work for trench raiding but then suddenly you're trading fire with a treeline 300m away and you're fucked.
Also now you have guns with trouble penetrating soft armor in addition to plates, making them even less lethal.
Look at your Ukraine example to see how outside of arty/armor type guys there's very little SMG use, and very little ultra short rifle demand. A 14-16 ish barrel intermediate caliber gives the flexibility needed. A normal soldier even in a military like the U.S. can't easily swap out guns for something that's a better fit on the fly. You get what you get. Even more so in Ukraine. You want a gun that works at both close and mid range when you're only going to get one.

Howdy all, I just inherited this old fox double gun that is missing a chunk of wood from the stock right up where it butts into the receiver (pic included).

Could this cause a problem if I were to fire this gun, enough to warrant a replacement or repair? Iโ€™m concerned that since itโ€™s missing a chunk from the upper left side that firing especially from the left barrel can cause it to โ€œtwistโ€ its way out of the stock and eventually come loose. I mostly be firing trap loads out of this but I would also like to fire buck and slugs from it and i donโ€™t want to worry about it breaking on me. Just doing a quick search for used stocks this rough area seems to be a common break point.

Depends, I might get shit for this but dot sights are a good example of the 80/20 rule, we are at the point where a sig or Holosun sight is good enough that itโ€™s the best sight for 99% of the shooter community. No denying that aimpoints have better glass quality and are probably more bombproof but the question is the extra $700 worth it for the last few percent of improvement when you can do better with a Holosun and a few cans of ammo. Iโ€™m happy with my sig Romeo 7s even under NV and I have friends who Romeo 5s in all sorts of conditions.

Buying used is an option too, going rate for a used comp m4 is 500 or so on reddit and tacswap

Citric acid works better than vinegar for rust removal IME. Wipe with sponge or #0000 steel wool to get the leftover junk off after pulling it out. Like $6 for citric acid in the canning aisle at Walmart, white container, red lid. You can also add washing soda and dawn to make evaporust to prevent it eating good metal.

Speaking of, IIRC Tractor Supply sells ~10% Vinegar in regular vinegar jugs. May be higher; I forget. But my recommendation for citric is still what I'd consider the best since it can so easily be made into evaporust to make sure it doesn't even touch anything but the rust. That and the powder doesn't really "go bad" or dry out.

The ejector kicks the brass out while the extractor claw is still holding onto the groove near the case head. This makes the brass spin around as it ejects. The mouth of the brass ends up hitting the action there.

I'm trying to figure out how to measure OAL for a rifle with a folding stock to make sure any rifles I want to buy aren't going into (IIRC) AOW territory. I remember hearing multiple things in the past but from what I've read in multiple ATF documents it seems you measure rifles with folding or collapsing stocks with the stock fully extended as repeatedly it's mentioned that since it's a rifle, it's designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder. However, I can't seem to find a clear answer in written law like 18 USC, only various ATF documents. Here in form 5310.1, page 6, it seems that the ATF agrees in measuring OAL with the stock extended as well as in an excerpt of a 2019 document clarifying their stance on braces at that time (there was a mention of how measuring braced pistols differs from measuring a rifle). Also it does seem that the WASR underfolder on Atlantic, RI3321-N, is 25 3/4" when folded, which further makes me think what little I found is correct. Any anons have better documents or excerpts from 18 USC that are clearer?

The other document. Orange is about braced firearms but semi-relevant. Yellow is about rifles with folding stock which is what I was looking for (but searching about folding stocks brings up nothing but pages about braces).

spray with wd40, ballistol, hammerite whatever oil
put in plastic bag
wait a day
go over it with soft a brass brush (spark plug brushes f.i.) or copper kettle cleaning pad and scratch rust blooms off
now you must decide:
keep it blank and oiled to prevent further rust
or
reblue the blank spots with quick blueing liquid, it will be a better rust protection but more work since you must degrease the blank spots

finish will look a bit specky in both ways but better than now and no more rust.

thats common knowledge btw.

atf does fully extended, no muzzle device.
however certain states do fully collapsed/folded/shortest possible no muzzle device
other states count the muzzle device for overall
which means you could have something federally legal and illegal in state.
the state thing made it complicated and like everything the atf refuses to set in stone what the actual measurement is.

I've done that on my C308, like 4 layers of it to reduce how much damage the brass does bouncing off. Come to think of it I also have a Howa 1500 in .308 that does the same thing, although it's not mangling the brass so I don't really care.

No, it's an oversized pistol, similar in vein to one of the semi-auto MAC-10/UZI pistols. PCC specifically refers to pistol caliber rifles, although if you put a brace on it the line gets blurry.
It's kind of an odd category of guns that doesn't really have a specific term I'm aware of.
>>63888149
Probably not since they have to actually do small operations during peacetime that infantry doesn't get sent to do, and during a full on war they are right in the spearhead.

No, there's still range and barrier penetration. They went in circles considering bringing back battle rifles but those have too many trade offs as well. Best strategy is still just to shower the enemy with 5.56mm and explosives then hope it works.

If you really want an 870 you really have to spring for a vintage model that's pre Freedom Group, or just buy a Mav 88 if you want something cheap that will work and not corrode before your eyes.

Camo hunter's tape? That's about the most tacticool tape gets unless you want to buy something usually used on other rifles. Blue Russian electrical tape for AKMs (just buy some 3M in blue), paki tape (is that really tape or just cord?), OD green US surplus duct tape (my surplus 30rd M4 mags are covered in the stuff). I don't think anyone makes specific case deflector tape lol. Maybe a thick rubber strip tape or something if 3M makes it.

Fuck, that too. Putting a bit of it where the center pad of an AR ejection port door smacks can quiet the door opening a ton. If you put the fuzzy side on the door and the lower fencing (ridge) it hits it'll be even quieter. I've had some on my first AR for nearly 10 years at this point. Not sure why that bothered me other than the condition of my AR but it helps when hunting somewhat, mostly in niche conditions.

Oh also if you do use electrical tape, don't cheap out, just buy a roll of 3M made tape. The offbrand crap from Harbor Freight and Dollar Tree has its adhesive turn into syrup in no time. Striker is what gets held in place by the sear prior to firing, firing pin is what actually engages the primer when the striker drops. Often times these two parts are merged into one, but this is not universally true. For instance on bolt action rifles they are usually striker fired and often the firing pin itself is just part of an overall striker assembly.

As far as online most of them are dropshippers. They don't have any actual inventory and never even see or interact with the product. They just place an order for you from a distributor, cutting dealers out and charging you a few bucks for the service.

ITAR is a thing.
NEET collectors willing to spend money on an authentic object are a thing.
It's a captive small market with esoteric demand and very limited supply. You can try to capitalize on it, but doing so legally and on a large scale legally without flooding the market would be tricky. Nobody has done it because it's probably not worth the squeeze and if it becomes more of a thing than it already is, Japan might move to regulate.

Places that just randomly "rent guns" that you can take off the premises don't exist. Some shooting ranges have guns for rent but you can't take them off the range. Hunting guide services sometimes have guns they will loan you. I'd Email various hunting guides/outfitters in the area you'll be going, and ask if they have any loaner rifles they can hook you up with. Just explain the situation like you did here.

Hmmm. My ranges are under Communist rule (a.k.a., the Democratic Party), so I'm not sure if I have the option to function test that far out (100 yds is about the maximum, even outdoor firing ranges).

If I'm going big (458 WIN? LOL), I might as well go there. 300 WM is more commercially available, yes?

I don't reload (no space at home).

That's a dangerous game hunting round, a totally different thing. I don't know about where you live but in the US rifles in that caliber are surprisingly cheap on the used market because people buy them, shoot three rounds, and then stop because their shoulder hurts. If you're a recoil junkie it's worth considering. The ammo is expensive and not exactly common either. That is not a caliber many people shoot for fun.

Regular hunting license comes with:
>Resident Adult Hunting (incl small game like squirrel and maybe some others)
>Antlered or Flintlock Tag
>Fall Turkey Tag
>Spring Turkey Tag
To hunt fox, coyote, raccoon, opossum, you need a furbearer license. To hunt stocked pheasant and quail you need licenses for those. For duck you need a license for those. Deer can't be hunted with semi-autos.

>are the 6.5x55mm clips pretty much interchangeable with other Mauser stripper clips
Somewhat; the Swedish 6.5x55mm clips work in Mauser rifles chambered in 7x57mm, but they are too wide to fit in the charger guide for 8x57mm clips. Conversely, the 8x57 clips won't seat in the Swede's charger guides and the clip will go into the magazine along with the cartridges. Easy way to tell them apart at a glance is that the 8x57mm clips have three lugs on each side of the clip, whereas all the others have two (or none, in the case of 7.65x53mm clips). Swedish clips also work very well in US rifles chambered for .30-'06, as well as SOME of the Mauser 98 rifles converted to .30-'06.

>>63902820
Sweden YES!

>>63905168
>tend to be narrower than those meant for 98s.
You have it backwards. The 6.5x55mm and 7x57mm clips are wider. It also depends as much on the caliber of the rifle as to which clip the rifle uses because many countries that adopted some variant of Mauser 98 had already adopted an earlier Mauser variant that used an older style of clip, and thus their new M98 was cut to use those same clips to simplify logistics. For instance: Argentine Model 1909 rifles still use the no-lug clip meant for the Model 1891 and aren't cut at all for a lugged clip.

Damn! Only asking because I'm trying to make replacement bits for old guns myself and I'm running into issues with heat where parts soften again. Probably around 110F to 140F, like a car interior. I've found some resins that require a post-cure bake that may solve this, though. Trying to keep it to resins for simplicity's sake. (I also think the ABS/Nylon repro parts with modern bead blasted textured mold finish looks like ass so straight copying LNIB originals to get as close to original textures as possible is better IMO)

Derringers have always been a pretty crappy better-than-nothing carry gun at best. Tricky to carry, use or hit anything with and you have 1-2 shots on board. Even a 5-shot J frame is leagues better.

If all you have is a Derringer and you absolutely can't get anything else then sure. But if you are looking to buy one there's a whole profusion of cheap 9mm automatic pocket pistols for ~$150-250 that would blow it out of the water. There's just no reason to gimp yourself like that if given a choice.

As far as poorfag guide, the market constantly shifts and 2020 was a very unique time. Things are much different now. Watch for a new /pfg/ thread.
>>63910310
Better than nothing. They also take up space you might otherwise not be using which is convenient, but unless you have a takedown rifle/shotgun you would only be storing handguns there.
>>63910103
They still work and they are still dirt cheap. A Maverick 88 can be had for well under $200 used and will put anyone dumb enough not to back up into a body bag in a hurry. #4 buckshot is still a great middle ground between turning burglars into hamburger and not over-penning walls as well.
That said, AR-15s are cheaper than ever. A $400 AR can get you 30rds on tap that will punch well above their caliber while tumbling after 2 layers of drywall and being able to tag a perp across the street if necessary. That is becoming the go-to solution for a lot of reasons. Personally I would feel very well protected with either option.

Apparently never ever, because the GOP cares more about bashing trannies than they do about expanding anybody's rights. Renowned zionist and ZOG mercenary, Dan Crenshaw, had no qualms about forcing through the removal of healthcare for trans people, despite the parliamentarian removing it. However, when it comes to restoring our 2A rights, he and the rest folded like a wet blanket. So the next time you're filling out an NFA form or asking them approval to take your rifle across state lines or trying to camp and shoot on public lands where you once shot but come to find is now owned by Jeff Bezos, just take comfort knowing that at least some troon who you never met somewhere lost their healthcare. It sounds retarded. .38 is pretty much identical to 9mm ballistically so they both ought to be in the same damage category. And I'm having a hard time thinking of any game balance reasons why that might make sense. Some games make revolvers more powerful than semis to balance their lower capacity and slower reload. That's not realistic but at least it makes sense in terms of game logic. Having .38 be weaker makes no sense at all, either in terms of balance or realism.

And if you're fine with manually cocking frankly get one of those silly little 22LR/22WMR revolvers that hold like 5 rounds. There are anons who claim to carry those (god help their ears).

These days, to ship a firearm, you usually need a special FFL account with the courier. Seriously, tty taking a gun into FedEx or UPS and see the look on the kids' faces. Yes, just take it to your preferred FFL and tell them you need to ship it to another FFL. They'll handle everything (assuming you have a copy of the receiver's FFL) and charge you a fee for the service (or free if they really like you).

IIRC I bought something from Dahlonega but I forget what. As long as it's their real site (though who would make a fake duplicate site of a random LGS instead of a major manufacturer?), they're GTG. They've been listed on ammoseek and gun.deals for years. Go search for 9mm or 223 on ammoseek and I almost guarantee they'll be in the top 50 listings (lowest cpr first).

Remove plastic furniture and parts in the white or plated (bolt?) And boil. Steam also supposedly works if you want to put a 3-4" dia PVC pipe (~4-5' long) with holes drilled a the top to fasten a wire across the top (to hang barrels) on a paint can lid and fill the can with water. Then #0000 should remove the remaining, if not, boil and #0000 until good. Mark Novak has a video on both boiling and steaming. Steam might've been the video with his friend Bob IIRC.

Though if that's not a bead blasted blue and instead it's a paint finish, god help you.

ABS, ASA, PC, and maybe PETG should all be safe at the temperatures youโ€™re talking about. Iโ€™m an FDM guy though, no idea if any of those have equivalents in the resin world.

What type of surface finish are you going for? There are a lot of spray on texture coatings that look great, even one to mimic HK plastic. https://jeffstoybox.blogspot.com/2021/01/making-your-prints-look-likenot-prints.html?m=1

Is it legal to make your house bulletproof or dig a ditch around your house? I heard you're not allowed to place traps on your own land.

I own one, donโ€™t buy it. Not even fun to shoot. Only feeds and cycles on very specific ammo, and if you have hands larger than an infantโ€™s the slide will bite the fuck out of the webbing of your thumb. The last round hold open is in the magazine too, so itโ€™s really easily to accidentally close the slide on hand

I feel like it definitely wouldn't be illegal to make your house bulletproof. Would probably have the thermal dynamics of a brick house though and be miserable all year round.

Traps are illegal because itโ€™s unmonitored lethal force. If a kid fucking around trespassing got seriously hurt from a trap you made, you would be held liable. It all comes from one case where a guy set up a shotgun and string in an abandoned house he owned. They found that lethal force can and should only be used to protect human life. Basically, youโ€™d have to remove your traps every time you left your house, and prove that the person caught in your trap was intending to kill you and you knew it. Not worth the headache, just get an AR.

Bulletproof walls and ditches around your house are okay as long as it follows building codes

Also, read Katko v Britney.

โ€œโ€ฆstated under the law their use was prohibited except to prevent the commission of felonies of violence and where human life is in danger. The instruction included a statement breaking and entering is not a felony of violence.

Instruction 5 stated: โ€œYou are hereby instructed that one may use reasonable force in the protection of his property, but such right is subject to the qualification that one may not use such means of force as will take human life or inflict great bodily injury. Such is the rule even though the injured party is a trespasser and is in violation of the law himself.โ€

Instruction 6 stated: โ€œAn owner of premises is prohibited from willfully or intentionally injuring a trespasser by means of force that either takes life or inflicts great bodily injury; and therefore a person owning a premise is prohibited from setting out โ€˜spring gunsโ€™ and like dangerous devices which will likely take life or inflict great bodily injury, for the purpose of harming trespassers. The fact that the trespasser may be acting in violation of the law does not change the rule. The only time when such conduct of setting a โ€˜spring gunโ€™ or a like dangerous device is justified would be when the trespasser was committing a felony of violence or a felony punishable by death, or where the trespasser was endangering human life by his act.โ€

To add to this, no one is stopping you from having... interesting plant choices at the property lines. Spanish bayonets, roses, honeysuckle, etc

That being said, aside from the plant idea, I wouldn't do it for legal reasons. Not because doing it is illegal, but because Americans have a cucked idea of self-defense, and showing that you care at all about or made any sort of planning for it in any way WILL be used against you in court.

Same reason why the most important accessory you can get for a self-defense gun is wood furniture.

Why do cosmetics matter on a tool? Firearms get so little use they're expected to look new. Think about it. It does not make them better at punching paper or people.

I don't worry about finish on my utility shotgun and AR any more. I own them and they are not for display any more than my cutting torches and grinders.

He uses his weapons the same way, like a screwdriver or drill. They do not need to shine to shoot. Consider the freedom of not caring about trivial things.
