Mystic Quest bugs the shit out of me because there's are so many fucking enemies just haphazardly plastered everywhere. Every chest, every intersection, every couple steps in a linear hall, every doorway, every tile-wide gap, they feel the need to shove another encounter there to waste your time with menial, unrewarding, sterile, exhausting bullshit. I swear to god if this retarded-ass game just had regular random encounters you'd be getting into less fights.
They get on-screen encounters perfect with Super Mario RPG (what mystic quest should've been in the first place) but of course decide not to incorporate that into any mainline Final Fantasy until 12 (where they just got rid of seperate battle screens entirely in that one)
