The Empire Cuts through the Continent
November 27, 1933

Imperial Britain finally has completed the Nicaragua canal project, expanding her trade routes and creating a significant hold over the Americas. In a grand ceremony as the final locks on the canal were completed, the HMS Indominable passed through the canal flanked by two mercantile vessels. The crowd cheered as the ships entered the Pacific Ocean.

Initially proposed by German architect Herman Sorgel, the project began in 1925 as a way to bolster Britain's stagnant economy. There had been discussions of a canal project in Panama, but geopolitical concerns of the Empire of Gran Colombia seizing control of it made Nicaragua the superior choice.

The owners of mercantile corporations based out of London, such as Imperial Chemical Industries and British-American Tobacco, rejoice at the news. The canal means that mercantile fleets can travel directly from the Atlantic to the Pacific without having to traverse the dangerous Magellan Strait. Trade is projected to increase by a significant amount.

Moreover, Imperial Britain's hold over the Americas now is greatly strengthened. Now, the Empire is able to deploy armies and fleets to the west coast of the Americas and the Pacific much more quickly than before.

The Nicaragua Canal is another massive technological show of display from the Empire. It is able to exert its will and dominance over the world like never before.
