Orders from Tokio were clear: focus on the APLA, destroy the Shina puppet.

Nippon had four armored divisions with which to defeat the armies of four different factions. She was outnumbered, outgunned, and in foreign territory. What Nippon had this time, however, was airpower. Seven hundred Generation 4 Close Airs Support fighters were set to arrive at Minot Air Force Base within days. Neither the communist nor the fascist factions were known to have an air force. Through overwhelming air superiority and lightning fast armored divisions, the hope is that breakthroughs can be established quickly and easily to surround and destroy the enemy.

The first objective is to secure the Twin Cities region. Nippon had learned from the Intervention into Xinjiang, when her armored divisions strayed too far from the allied capital and it fell to enemy forces. Once Nippon secures the Twin Cities, then the second objective is to retake Denver from the communists. The issue will be timing and whether Trump's militia can defend the remaining American territories from the opposing factions. Time was not on Nippon's side.

Takemoto knew this, and he knew he needed to move fast.

The first two stages of Operation Sekinin are a success. The fascist forces have been pushed out of the Twin Cities area, while Nippon seized Denver for Trump's forces. The Intervention Force encircled two APLA militia divisions and a national guard division in Denver, capturing thousands of prisoners and equipment for Trump's struggling militia.

In less than a month, the situation is looking brighter for America. As news broke out in Tokio, and the city cheered. Shina has not taken the developing situation well. Just last week, a Shina vessel entered Nippon's territorial waters and fired water at some uninvolved Nippon fishing boats.

In other news, some 2ch users have begun complaining about the Nippon News Agency's use of the spelling "Tokio" and the word "Shina." One user went so far as to call the agency, speak with an administrative assistant, and rage for over ten minutes about the mental faculties of not only the assistant but the entire agency itself. Whatever the cause may be for this particular case of quibbling, the agency has no plans to change the way it spells "Tokio" or the use of the name "Shina."

The losses for the APLA are quickly beginning to mount as the Nippon Intervention Force surges forward in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. Six divisions--two mechanized, three militia, and special ops unit--are surrounded and await imminent destruction in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The problem for Nippon is that the Intervention Force is moving so quickly through the plains that it is beginning to run into mountainous terrain (Uinta Mountains) as far as the eye can see.

Takemoto has considered the idea of trapping the APLA by withdrawing back to Denver, letting APLA forces seize land, and then encircling them again. The problem is that runs into political concerns. American officials want the land liberated, and they are not keen on the idea of abandoning land almost the size of a state, even if the plan would be to recapture it. For now, High Command in Tokio has vetoed the idea.

Nippon intelligence views the success of the bombardment, seemingly catching the Israelis by surprise, as a failure of the Israeli intelligence community in preventing the strikes or at least minimizing their damage.

The last conflict Israel had with its neighbors was in 2014, when three Israeli teenagers were killed by Hamas in the West Bank. Israel increased its security measures and cracked down on the West Bank, resulting in a flurry of violence from Hamas.

There has been relative peace since that conflict ended. But that peace now has been shattered.

Syria in recent years has developed its military after years of civil war. Its military is stronger and carries a significant and modern tank arsenal. It is not the Syria of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

It took approximately three months of hard fighting through the expansive mountain and forest range, but Nippon achieved the near-impossible by getting her tanks through.

If this were peacetime, the Nippon troops could enjoy the sheer wonder of Utah and its landscape. But it is not, and so they fight for every inch in territory that tourists used to visit by the droves. The shelling and mines have resulted in a conservation nightmare that will last years to come.

Meanwhile, fascist forces inch their way back toward Minneapolis. Once the Nippon Army consolidates the area around Salt Lake City, it will have to travel back east to defend and retake land they seized when they first arrived. There is a long war left ahead of the Nippon Intervention Force.

Nuclear Armageddon hits the Middle East. Israel launched its entire nuclear arsenal on the Middle Eastern nations. Approximately 90-200 nuclear warheads were launched from ICBMs.

Millions feared dead. Millions more wounded. The DNA of the survives forever damaged, and whatever children they produce will also carry the damaged DNA. Radioactive waste will haunt the region for centuries to come.

Egypt, already suffering extreme water shortage with millions dying from thirst and related illnesses every year, has dissolved into a semi-anarchic state. In approximately 2025, the province of Cairo had around 50 million people, but at -1% growth rate because of the water shortage (-950% population growth), millions have died or fled the country. In 2027, Cairo holds 38 million. 12 million difference in two years. Now that number will further plummet.

Syria, already struggling from a decade of civil war, simply is gone; her government is destroyed. For the time being, there is no one left to rule. That will change, and someone will emerge to rule the ashes, but today it is a destroyed hellscape.

Iraq, which did not even participate in the war, is gone. The cradle of civilization saw a 25 megaton hydrogen bomb explode on it, casting poisonous radioactivity for miles in every direction.

The half of the world not currently engaged or recovering from civil war is in shock. The refugee crisis from this holocaust will affect Europe for the next century. Oil prices might never recover. The environmental impact of all this has some conservationists considering suicide.

The world will never be the same again, thanks to Israel. If it had a blemished reputation before, now it is considered one of the worst nation-states to have ever existed. The Torah/Hebrew bible will be banned in over half the countries in the world.

As it arrives in one region, another catastrophe occurs in the region it just left behind. Approximately 30 American divisions were recently trapped behind enemy lines but were saved by the Nippon Army.

Takemoto is frustrated. There are too many fascists, too many communists, not enough Americans. He has relayed his concerns to Defense Minister Michael Flynn, who has repeatedly urged withdrawing from the mountainous areas and encircling the enemy in the plains, to the disagreement of some other Trump officials. Flynn has military experience, he understands. The rest, not so much.

The Second American Civil War continues, reaching almost its seventh year of intense warfare. Even after all is said and done a faction consolidates control over nation once more, America will never be the same. Blown out cities, mines everywhere, millions resettled in different countries and unlikely to return, American corporations restructured in Europe and Nippon, so much has changed.

Nippon fights on. Tokio urges it.

The Mexican Civil War, after about five years of conflict, draws to an end with a horrific outcome: the Zapatista Army of National Liberation has won. Defeating the Mexican government, the Mormons, and the various cartel factions, the Zapatistas have come out on top, likely while receiving significant aid from Shina.

The New Left's coup of Beijing has seen an unprecedented level of support to communist insurrectionist factions worldwide. The New Left believe in exporting communism, particularly Mao's form of communism, throughout the world. It is what drives much of their jingoistic ambitions.

The next domino to fall to communism likely will be in the Congo. The communist faction in the Third Congo War, which has raged for eight years, fights the conservative government. The conservatives have been pushed to the Katanga region, where they have held out for the past year.

Shina's influence over the world has grown since 2020. But so has Tokio's. The eventual clash between these two titans will likely determine the fate of the world.

North Korea crosses the DMZ and invades South Korea. Hours later, it mobilized all of its demobilized units. Seoul is under heavy artillery and missile fire. The South Korean government has sent word to Tokio that it needs reinforcement, ASAP.

Nippon intelligence has indicated that this is the prelude to full-scale total war across Asia. It is not a question of if Shina will enter the war but when.

Tokio has reacted by immediately withdrawing the Intervention Force from America. After almost two years of fighting in the plains and mountains, the Nippon soldier is glad to be returning home, even if most of the Army recognizes that war in Asia is coming.

Tokio has deployed armies across Asia:

This would be a much different fight than in America, Takemoto thought. In a little over a week, the Intervention Force secured Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Nippon armored divisions swept through DPRK positions like wildfire. So it turns out, starving one's population and oppressing them for generations, creating a society based on terror and fear, and having scarcity in all manners of resources, results in a poor military when subjected to total war.

DPRK soldiers have abandoned their positions, thrown down their weapons, and surrendered when Nippon forces descend upon them. Some have put up resistance, but the fascists and communists in America were deadlier threats than these bugs.

Mass captures of DPRK soldiers have occurred through encirclement and destruction of Nork units. One soldier captured early in the war after a Nork offensive had gone awry reported that when his unit was mobilized for war, he was initially told that they were on a simple training exercise.

The POWs transported down south have now seen how the South Koreans live and compared it to their own situations. "I want to live in South Korea," many POWs have said. Other POWs report starvation conditions back home north of the DMZ and have displayed food hoarding tendencies, despite being given plenty of food.

The war continues, but with Pyongyang captured, it is unclear for how much longer it will last.

Beijing has not responded to the news.

For the past month, all eight surface fleets of the Nippon Navy have been executing high-tempo operations across the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, engaging and decimating remnants of the Shina naval forces in a series of rapid strikes and decisive battles.

With so many carriers in the Nippon Navy, they have been distributed in such a way that even several patrol fleets have carriers attached to them. This added strength has ensured that operations in seeking out and destroying Shina fleets have gone smoothly.

From the Yellow Sea to the East China Sea, Nippon ships patrol the waters and hunt for Shina convoy and combat ships. There have been several naval battles that have occurred, with heavy losses suffered by Shina.

The Fall of Shina's Southern Shield
April 6 - May 23

From the jungles of Cambodia to the deserts and mountains of Pakistan, Shina's allies are falling to the might of Nippon and the PDTO. In a little over a month, first Cambodia then Pakistan fell, with each signing treaties of surrender. In Cambodia,

Nippon forces drove through jungle terrain and seized key logistical and political centers after breaching Cambodian defensive positions. In Pakistan, a parallel offensive, in conjunction with Indian ground forces, resulted in the fall of Karachi and other major population centers and the subsequent surrender of Pakistan.

Their collapse so early in the war means that Nippon can shift her manpower to other fronts. Tokio had assigned 18 armored divisions to fight Pakistan and 18 divisions to fight Cambodia. Now these 36 divisions can be redeployed elsewhere.

Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Laos are all that remain of Shina's allies. Now that Pakistan is defeated, India can reinforce her borders with Bhutan and Nepal and potentially start an offensive against them.

Currently, Nippon is working on operational plans for the invasion of Manchuria. Without sufficient planning, Nippon forces would suffer greatly (-50% attack and other maluses). It will take time to plan, but for now with the fall of Cambodia and Pakistan and the loss of Shina's navy, it feels to Tokio like time is on Nippon's side.

For now, the initiative belongs to Nippon.

Tanks on the Mekong, Boots in Manchuria: The Path to Beijing
May 30 - June 17, 2029

On June 6, Laos collapsed after 19 division belonging to Laos and Shina were surrounded in Savannakhet on the Mekong River by several hundred Nippon Type-10 tanks and IFVs. Already shot from weeks of heavy fighting, the surrounded Laotian and Shinese soldiers surrendered. Laos, having lost its capital of Vientiane, took the news poorly and surrendered soon after.

Approximately a week-and-a-half later, North Korea surrendered after holding out with several divisions supported by Shinese troops in the North Pyongan province. After Nippon seized Pyongyang in late January, her armored divisions broke through Nork defensive lines and surged across the North Korean countryside up to the Chagang Mountains.

Several Nippon armored divisions then crossed the Nork-Shina border and continued north into Manchuria before finally coming into contact with Shina forces outside Harbin. All total, 32 armored divisions have participated in the North Korean-Manchurian offensive. With North Korea surrendering, operations have momentarily paused as Nippon plans further operations west into Manchuria to eventually assault Beijing.

The Shinese Air Force has resisted strongly against Nippon air intrusion into Manchuria. Already both sides have lost hundreds of planes, with Shina losing a fewer number. Daily sorties by Nippon CAS is a common sight.

For now, Nippon’s momentum is unquestioned, but the cost of continued air and ground warfare will be high. The ultimate goal of Beijing draws closer, but the final victory remains uncertain, though it is much closer than it was two months ago.

The great population crisis essentially has been solved in one fell swoop as millions of people have been joined with Nippon.

Hong Kong is liberated at last, joined with Taiwan and ultimately ruled from Tokio. Guangzhou, Fuzhou, and Hainan ceded to Taiwan, expanding its/Tokio's influence along the South China Sea.

The fall of Beijing marks more than just a military victory—it heralds the beginning of a new geopolitical order in Asia. The once-dominant Shina has fractured; its ideology discredited, its military shattered, and its people scattered. The PDTO, once a coalition formed in the shadows of global uncertainty, now stands unchallenged in the region.

With the complete collapse of the second government in Beijing, the city and surrounding region descended into complete anarchy. The chaos quickly spread to the neighboring provinces, and like a domino effect the nation of Shina began to splinter and fragment.

In some places, the military seized control, in others, democratic factions came into power and rallied the local governments to independence. A myriad of differing ideologies have emerged in the numerous factions that now govern the remnants of what was once called Shina.

The future now is certain: Nippon is ascendant in Asia. There are already talks of making Korea a puppet state, and Nippon officials suspect they will have no trouble convincing the Korean government of this. After all, Nippon now is a great democratic empire--who would not wish to join it?

Shina's power over Asia is forever destroyed. It is slpit into civil war, and millions will perish in the coming months and years. Even if a faction consolidates power, it is unlikely that Nippon would ever allow it to seize all of the territories once belonging to Shina.

Asia and the Pacific are a better place than before, thanks to the PTDO and Nippon.

The President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai, the Father of the Republic, was frustrated. He had summoned a council of the military officers to discuss the issues that currently plagued the Republic, hopefully to brainstorm ideas. But when the council met, they were more interested in arguing amongst themselves than coming up with solutions to the problems. Maybe there were no current solutions. The President-Marshal wanted to try anyway.

The obstacles were many.

First, the language and cultural barrier exists between the local griffons of Cloudbury, the land the Republic occupies, and the Republican Herzlander griffons, who had traveled from the southlands to this cold land they now consider home. This has caused ongoing problems, from impacting the military performance of the local natives, to collecting taxes from the populace. There is no known insurrection fomenting, so this obstacle is not as concerning as others.

Second, the once pride of the Republic, the Republican Army, which led the Herzlander griffonos north to this iceland, is in complete and utter disarray. This is the most concerning of the obstacles. Many within the military are frustrated, with some resorting to plundering the local communities. This needs to be fixed. At the moment, new military units cannot be trained until this problem is resolved.

Third, bandits plague the countryside. At the time, lynching the old ruler and his family felt good to the republicans when they came here and found the nobles oppressing the locals. But in so doing, the previous government imploded, and now (years later) the bandits have gained such strength that they rule swathes of land with impunity. This affects tax collection, resource gathering, everything needed to run a nation.

Fourth, food. Starvation is the great fear. Nogriff yet has turned to cannibalism, but the food stocks dwindle by the day. The Republic needs to find a permanent solution to the food problem.

To restore the Republican Army and bring discipline back to the military requires extreme measures. In recent years, select generals who have been with the Republic since the initial revolution, Reinhard Suntail and Claus Rosewing, have caused severe problems that have resulted in the Army's current status of disarray.

The once-proud Republican Army, built on the ideals of freedom, unity, and progress, has been compromised by the internal corruption and ambitions of high-ranking officers such as Suntail and Rosewing and their followers. These officers, once revered for their valor in the early days of the Republic, have become parasites that threaten the integrity of our nation.

Suntail: Following the 1003 banning of the Griffonian National Revolutionary Front after they committed a terrorist attack, Suntail, in disagreement with the banning, took an army north and began to plunder and raid communities. A decorated and skilled officer, his own arrogance and ego has unfortunately has led him to commit terrible acts. This can no longer continue.

Rosewing: The former President-Marshal's closest friend, confidante, and once-Vice President. After a series of disagreements on republican ideals, the two drifted apart. Over time, he began supporting a monarchist movement within the Republic. Recently, he took the army under his command and began raiding republican armories for weapons. He needs to be stopped.

The Republican Army needs new blood. Approximately half of the generals are considered Old Guard and unflexing in their military views. A Republican Military Academy needs to be created to train republican soldiers and bring in fresh officers who can replace some of the untrustworthy Griffons.

To ensure that the Griffons stand behind the Army, there must be a public reaffirmation of the Republic’s principles.

Snow drifted down, covering the city, when the news arrived with a surprising announcement. Emperor Grover V, that tyrantgriff and ruler of the Griffonian Empire, had died of natural causes. According to the Republic, Emperor Grover V ruled the Empire with an iron claw. The republicangriffs reacted with joy, leaping into the air and swooping through the snowfall. The scraping sound of clawclapping could be heard all around the city as Griiffons cheered.

In the 978 Republican Revolution led by the President-Marshal, Emperor Grover V had almost been captured. But he escaped with the nobles, rallied the monarchistgriff forces, and reclaimed the Empire from the republicangriffs. Vctory had slipped through the Republic's claws. For many years, reublicangriffs had lamented what had occurred. If only they could have captured Grover V and quickly beaked him, severing his neck with a quick strike from the beak, they might have won the war and everything would have been different. But they had not, so it was not. Instead, they live in the cold among the local Cloudburygriffs. With Grover V's passing, that might change.

The President-Marshal began preparing a speech for the occasion. He had hoped for this moment for years, the defeat still haunting him. Today was a good day.

Grover V may have been a tyrant, but he was also a formidable foe. His death brings an end to an era of oppression, and with it, the chance to reshape the future of the Griffon nation and reclaim it for republicanism.

The President-Marshal has already ordered the preparation for a military campaign. The Republic must be ready. This is the moment the republicangriffs have been waiting for. Grover V is dead, and with him, the last vestiges of the Empire that sought to crush our freedoms. Today, the Republic stands on the precipice of a new dawn.

In all my hours of CK2, I finally started to play the Anglo Saxon in 867 instead of playing the 1066 French/German or 769 Byzies (hell even the Rum Seljuks are comfy too).
I think so far, its not my best playthrough but my most comfy. Just focusing on the British Isles, getting the Norse off my lands and keeping the Scotts and Irish at bay with strategic alliance, plot and claimant married into my dynasty.
My firstborn heir has a claim on Scotland and due to how Tanistary work, I think I will marry his kids to Irish claimants so his grandsons/daughters can claim the isles in one swoop.
In the meantime, I build, modernize England and help the Karlings and Asturias against the looming threats of the Khazar Jewish hordes and the Umayyad Sultanate in Iberia.

I see its way more fun to just keep your De Jure Empire, and let your vassal conquer and just install relatives on other thrones than just blobing and conquer everyting.

Kurt Ashmark, a young republicangriff who had served under General Reinhard Suntail for years, flew through the night skies as he traveled to an important meeting in the city of Lostgate. Griffons were not known for being late. He would need to arrive before the clock struck midnight. But he also could not be seen; the President-Marshal's men could have trailed him. That night, he did not see any other Griffons flying along Airway 4, the designated travel-way to from Bleakspire to Lostgate. But one might never know they were being followed by a member of the elite Republican Guard.

Kurt arrived, however, without incident. Stepping into the Clawed Perch, the tavern of the agreed meeting place, he spotted a younger Griffonette. Few else were in the building. They could speak in private.

"You must be Elara," Kurt said calmly. The Griffonette was pretty, with sleek and glossy, well-cleaned feathers. The fur along her haunches was thick, yet nicely-groomed--clearly brushed often. Her tail was long, yet feminine. Though Kurt preferred ponies and their natural sexuality, he could not help but admit that the plotters had picked the perfect whore for the plan.

"I am--Ashmark, I presume?" Elara responded.

They began to discuss the details. It was a fairly simple seduction-and-poison plot. The President-Marshal had many positive traits, but it was an open secret that he was a womanizer. This weakness would be his downfall.

Suntail and Rosewing are up to more shenanigans, after their last plot was foiled by the Republican Guard. This time they have tried recruiting loyal republicangriffs to their banditry ranks. Droves of soldiers have abandoned their posts to join the warlords in the North. Abandoning their republican ideals, the Republic has branded them traitors and sent the Republican Guard to hunt them down. Across the continent in Equestria, the ponies teach that friendship is magic and to turn the other cheek. The Griffons, however, feel differently about matter. The Guard has orders directly from the President-Marshal to kill on sight any deserter and not to accept any excuse for why the deserter abandoned his post. Additionally, a newly-established government agency now controls the movement of male republicangriffs. Under this new directive, all males must seek permission before leaving Republic borders, a measure designed to prevent further defections.

The Guardsgriffs flew out and began hunting down putting to the beak numerous deserters. No exceptions. The warlords could not be permitted to have their ranks reinforced

Some have criticized the decision. One might argue that the republican ideals that originally led to the Revolution would have permitted soldiers and the non-soldier Griffons to exercise their right essentially to leave the Republic should they so choose and join another association. However, despite the dissent, the government has remained resolute. The decisions made are final, and no compromises will be made in the pursuit of maintaining the integrity and security of the Republic. The orders are clear: traitors will be hunted down, and any disobedience will be met with dire consequences.

The message has become clear that betrayal will not be tolerated, and the Republic will do whatever it takes to ensure its survival.

Between Duty and Idealism

As a culmination of policies over the years, the time has come where the President-Marshal must choose the direction of the Republic. For thirty years, the President-Marshal has steered this great nation through storm and strife, but now where does the Republic go from here?

On one hand, he could give the power of Republic to the people, cede control over the country that he has ruled for the past thirty years, and allow them to form a civilian government. Some philosophers and other civilians might say that the republican ideals on which Kemerskai has devoted his life to uphold would support this option. But they are not military officers fighting an ideological war, which is the situation the Republic has been in since the Revolution of 978. The second option is to keep power for himself, at least for the time being. While the Republic is not engaged in any current fights, in essence it still is at war with the Empire, and the Republic's policies should recognize that fact.

Not to mention there are still obstacles that a civilian government might not be equipped to handle. The Republic needs martial law imposed to prevent the rise of warlordism that has been increasing in recent years, and to fight the banditry that cripples the Republic. In speaking with those who likely would lead the civilian government, such as Heinrich Kingfeather, it has become clear to the President-Marshal that they would not support martial law. If they would not support martial law, then why give power of the Republic to them? It would spell the end of the Republic itself and, essentially, be an act of betrayal to all republicangriffs everywhere.

No, President-Marshal Kemerskai must keep the Republic’s reins in his claws, for as long as the skies are not free of the Republic's enemies, as long as war and disorder threaten to ravage what the Republic has built, the leadership of the Griffon Republic must remain with the military.

The Kingdom of Aquileia, located southwest of the Griffonian Empire, has crushed a republican revolt within its borders and maintained the monarchy. The news reaches Cloudbury, causing a dour mood to sweep the city. When word first had arrived of the revolution, everygriff cheered; there was hope then that the Aquileian republicangriffs would succeed and bring republicanism to Aquileia. For a moment, it had seemed that true republicanism forged in the fire of civic virtue might take root once more in a land long ruled by kings. The news has dashed those hopes.

In 980, following the 978 republician revolution in the Griffon Empire, republicangriffs in Aquileia revolted in the First Aquileian Revolution. They succeeded, but a counter-revolution five years later restored the kingdom and monarch to the throne. Republican sentiment has simmered in Aquileia since then. But now with the Second Aquileian Revoluution failing, it is likely that a brutal crackdown on reublicangriffs will occur, preventing a third revolution anytime soon.

It is a sobering moment for republicangriffs across the continent. For every defeat suffered by the republicangriffs, the fight for a republic rooted in liberty and civic brotherhood becomes harder, but never meaningless. As long as the ideal lives on in the hearts of Griffons, so too does the hope that one day, all shall be citizens, not subjects.

The 30-year anniversary of the Republic's 978 revolt against the Griffonian Empire has arrived. The thirtieth anniversary of the Republic's 978 uprising against the Griffonian Empire was meant to be a day of celebration, a solemn tribute to revolution, liberty, and the long road to freedom. Across the Republic, local governments organized ceremonies, parades, and speeches. The political class expected applause and pageantry. But they misjudged the mood of the republicangriffs.

The anger was palpable.

In Bleakspire, the official ceremony unraveled quickly. As dignitaries spoke of sacrifice and patience, the crowd grew restless. The crowd began chanting a return to the Griffonian Empire. A new war. A second revolution. The crowd grew louder, madder. Soon pieces of food were thrown at the stage. Then people pushed forward, ignoring the politicians plea foor them to stop. They seized the podium, and republicangriffs turned back to the crowd and began shouting that the leaders of the revolution had failed them, that pacifism was a failed policy, and that there needed to be war with the Griffonian Empire. The crowd cheered and roared with agreement. The military finally regained order without causing death, though their rifles were armed and ready for the shots.

Similar protests occurred in Lostgate and Cloudbury, though the military in Cloudbury prevented any lasting organized mob from forming. The Griffons were enraged. The anniversary had only reminded them of what they had lost: 30 years of suffering in this frozen hellscape; 30 years without their extended family back home; 30 years of defeat. They want to return and face the Empire with military action.

The revolution may have given them a republic, but not a home. Now, across the Republic, one demand echoes louder than any speech: Return. Not in peace, but in steel and fire.

Order Comes Before War

On lighter news, the military has finally resolved the banditry problem permanently. For years, the bandits that plagued the roads, woods, and airways, caused mayhem. One never knew when traveling from Lostgate to Cloudbury whether a bandit might appear and demand a toll tax. There had even been dark rumors that the bandits kept female ponies locked away and used for dark purposes, that the political caste were permitted to use these slaves and that was the real reason why the banditry problem was allowed to exist. Nonsense, of course, but the citizengriffs began loudly wondering whether the banditry problem would ever be resolved. Now, that problem has been put to rest.

The President-Marshal instituted martial law in large part because of the banditry problem. The military began to comb through the roads, airways, and woods, shooting on sight any bandit found. In some places, the military did find female ponies chained with their legs spread. The ponies, whores as some Griffons called them, were coldlyand quietly shipped back to Equestria and told not to return.

The President-Marshal took further steps. He activated emergency powers to allow him to implement anti-banditry measures. And he has also begun to improve other areas of the Republic, using these enacted powers. He has begun to enforce the Griffith dialect on the Republic to rid the nation of the language difference between local Cloudburygriffs and the republicangriffs who had settled here. New industrial centers now are being built. Food is being rationed out to remove the risk of famine. Trade routes are being protected with military strength. And the rural populace is being conscripted. The military is mobilizing and additional recruiting measures have been enacted.

Several steps are being taken to improve the might of the Republic and prepare it for war against the Griffonian Empire.

Since the death of Emperor Grover V, the once-unshakable Griffonian Empire has begun to splinter. Word has reached the Republic that the Griffonian Empire is facing internal strife as factions compete for the throne. Various provinces have used the moment to break apart from the Empire, either seeking independence or to settle some other ambition

The Yale Rectorate, Greifenmarschen, Angriver, Katerin Principality, and now Bronzehill have broken from the Empire. Approximately half of the Empire has severed ties with the throne.

Republicangriffs watch with anticipation. This might be the moment of reckoning for the Republic. With the Griffonian Empire distracted, the Republic can either invade in an attempt to seize the throne and tear it down in the name of republicanism, or turn to its neighbors and conquer them to consolidate its position and prepare for a greater war with the Empire in the future.

For the first time in thirty years, the Republic holds the initiative. What it chooses next may define the fate of the Republic.

I quite liked the Griffin empire stuff, I played that once as the emperor with the pope faction and then once more as the revived zombie of the previous emperor with the emperor set to be killed so you get to go apeshit with the zombieman which was kinda neat.
The real problem with that entire area when I last played was that you will inevitably win the civil war partly because you are the player but also because you will actively seek the reunification while the AI's just kinda wait around for stuff to happen for way too long and don't start their own consolidation wars or win them fast enough. Then when you are done you are just the biggest power in the entire continent immediately because you have the industry of like 12 nations all with their own OP focuses spamming factories.
The mod at least back then used to lack sort of the final global war that hoi4 has. Every region has their own Germany vs Poland and Germany vs France but lacks the Germany vs Soviets + Allies thing so everytime the going gets good it's already over.

Intervention into Bronzehill
November 25, 1009 - December 9, 1009

After Bronzehill revolted against the Griffonian Empire, the Empire invaded. President-Marshal Kemerskai, receiving reports on the ongoing military situation, decided the Republic needed to send an intervention force to save Bronzehill. While Bronzehill was not ruled by republicangriffs but instead was ruled by an authoritariangriff, being the enemy of the Empire made Bronzehill a friend to the Republic.

Two infantrygriff divisions flew off for Bronzehill. By the time they had arrived, most of Bronzehill had been seized. They landed in the capital city of Bronzekreuz and immediately took positions in the shelled-out urban environment. The Intervention Force carried the most modern small-arms, "Kralle" Karabiners, and had a battalion of artillery per division. The republicangriffs would show the autocratgriffs the elan of true republican fighting spirit in the coming days as they fired at empiregriffs that assaulted the city. They handily beat back each assault, bleeding the empiregriffs dry. Griffons, civilian and soldier alike, lay dead in the streets.

After a week of fighting, news arrived that the Duchy of Feathisia had revolted against the Griffonian Empire. Republicangriffs everywhere cheered. That meant only the Strawberry Duchy remained as a province of the Empire, and a few days later they too announced their independence.

With the Empire's entire army in Bronzehill fighting bronzegriffs, the Empire had completely neglected its western border. Feathisia seized upon this advantage and invaded the Empire's direct realm. Within two days, Feathisian forces had entered the Empire capital of Griffenheim, seizing the throne. The Griffon Empire was forced to sign a peace treaty with Bronzehill.

The Intervention Force had succeeded in its mission, and the Empire has collapsed entirely. With Feathisia in control of Griffenheim, the question is what will happen next.

In the name of the Republic and in supposed advancement of the republican ideals of citizenship, civic virtue, popular sovereignty, and so forth, President-Marshal Kemerskai has declared a national emergency and enacted permanent powers to rule the Republic with an iron fist. He has consolidated full executive and legislative power in his office.

The choice came before Kemerskai of either relinquishing power to the civiliangriffs or maintaining the martial law and stripping the Republic of even more civilian authority. Given the dangers still imposed internally and externally, the President-Marshal chose the latter. The constitution had already been suspended earlier last year to pave the way for policies that promoted the health of the Republic. The President-Marshal retaining power and even expanding it too would only serve to benefit the Republic.

Civiliangriffs have reacted in shock and dismay. They believe republicanism now is dead in the Republic. But this is nonsense. The President-Marshal has promised to relinquish his powers upon defeat of the Republic's enemies. The Republic is in an ideological war; it must protect itself from anti-republican sentiment everywhere.

Protests have broken out in Bleakspire and Lostgate. Thousands of civiliangriffs rally, calling Kemerskai a dictator and threat to republicanism. A demonstration was attempted in Cloudbury, but the Republican Guard dispersed it under technicalities of unauthorized assembly.

Kemerskai's supporters have noted that republicanism is not solely a matter of ballots and parliaments. It is, more deeply, a devotion to the common good. In moments of existential threat, republican virtue may demand sacrifice not only from citizens, but from the very structure of the state. President-Marshal Kemerskai has chosen order over chaos, unity over factionalism, survival over theoretical purity. He has preserved the Republic, by fire if necessary.

The Republican Guard, efficient and unsparing, swept through party offices and printshops, rounding up known agitators and closing down publications sympathetic to the cause.

After the Republican Guard rounded up the socialists, they went for the harmonists. Though their message of unity and spiritual concord once drew limited support among rural civiliangriffs, the harmonist movement has now been classified as dangerously ambiguous. Its invocation of “harmony” was seen as a veiled rejection of the rigorous discipline and virtue demanded by republican civic life. They, too, have been silenced.

The anti-Kemerskai demonstrations across the Republic have increased, but most of the country appears to agree with the President-Marshal. The nation is stable, the civiliangriffs have jobs, and the economy has boomed in the last two years as poverty has been reduced and literacy rates improved through government measures. New industrial centers are rising from the snow, and state-run education programs have reached thousands in rural regions. Civiliangriffs have food and direction.

The enemies of the Republic have been removed. In their place, a single vision remains: one Republic, united, marching under the iron will of the President-Marshal.

The revolution, it seems, is entering its next stage, not with compromise, but with clarity.

i have 900 hours on vanilla eu4 before i pirated the whole thing, even managed to get the epic reforming the roman empire cheevo with it. one thing for certain the dlcs make the game way easier like for extreme example, independence war as a weaker vassal is 99% not possible in veu4 but is super easy with dlcs. dlc has "break alliance button" so you can ask your ally to break his allegiance with someone else. basically, dlcs will give you more base rewards and buttons to get even more rewards. the wargame and the blobbing peace system are its strongest suits

Critics have fired back that there is no evidence of ponydisposal and that the President-Marshal is a great general who will lead the Republic to greatness, spreading republicanism across the continent.

From Bleakspire, the revolts spread north to Bredo. The protestors seized key parts of each city, from the publication centers to police stations, and soon barred the military from entering. The Republic Army now is entrenching just beyond the land occupied by the thousands of protestorgriffs.

In Cloudbury, the Republican Guard seized control of the city to prevent unrest spreading to the capital. A stricter martial law was imposed, granting the Guard extraordinary measures of suppression. So far, it has worked.

Whether this marks the beginning of civil collapse or merely a passing upheaval depends not only on the next orders from Cloudbury, but on whether the Republic still believes in the one who founded it.

Cornelius Vinke, once hailed as the quill of the Republic and a guiding voice for generations of young republicangriffs, has met a grim and ignoble end. Captured after his failed uprising in the North, the famed philosopher-turned-rebel has been executed, put to the beak for treason against the very ideals he once claimed to uphold.

In his early years, Vinke’s writings stirred the hearts of countless civiliangriffs. His essays on civic virtue, popular sovereignty, and republican liberty filled classrooms and barracks alike. But somewhere along the way, Vinke turned against the Republic he helped inspire. Convinced that President-Marshal Kemerskai had betrayed the revolution, Vinke called for a second revolt, not from foreign tyrants, but from within. Now, his reputation is forever tarnished has he attempted unsuccessfully to lead a revolt against the Republic.

Thousands of extremist republicangriffs had flocked to the North to join Vinke and his movement. When they arrived, they were given guns but no training. Elan and republican idealism alone would stave off the military, it was suggested. In reality, when the Republican Guard arrived with tanks, artillery, and thousands of well-trained soldiers, the traitors stood no chance. They were cut down immediately. Bleakspire sieged momentarily and then stormed, falling within a day.

The northern snows are quiet again. Vinke is dead, his name now reviled by those who once studied his words. But among the ashes, the Republic stands stronger, its enemies shattered, its resolve hardened. President-Marshal Kemerskai remains unchallenged, the Republic secured not by ink and speeches, but by steel and discipline.

At long last, the Republic heads to war. For over 30 years, the Republic has sat idle, simmering from its failed revolution in the Griffonian Empire and exile to the north. Now, the wheels of war move toward conquest. But, confusing to many republicangriffs, war is not against the Griffonian Empire but against the Republic's northern neighbors of Skynavia and its puppet the Northern Communes. Some republicangriffs have reacted with anger, demanding that war be declared against the Empire instead. Pro-Kemerskai voices have replied that a northern war is needed before a southern war occurs, for security reasons.

In 986, a little less than 10 years after the failed revolution, the Republic faced an internal confrontation with communists within its ranks. The communists led a second revolution and a second long march north, forming the communist Markist nation of Skynavia. These communists believe not in a single ruler to lead their country but a General Congress. Ridiculous in notion. There must always be an executive commander.

Since the failed revolution of 978 and the long, bitter retreat into the frozen wastes, the Republic has prepared for its eventual reckoning with the southern Empire. But President-Marshal Kemerskai, in his wisdom, has chosen a different path, one dictated by security and survival. The threat from Skynavia, the communist state born of betrayal and sedition, cannot be ignored.

The President-Marshal has declared Skynavia an enemy of republicanism, an enemy to the Republic. It must be defeated before the Republic focuses on the south, to secure its northern flank.

Accordingly, the armies of the Republic march north, into even colder weather. It is hoped that the war will end before the deep cold of winter sets in, though that remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the Republic fights not only for territory, but for the sanctity of its ideals and the inevitability of its destiny.

The northern campaign has come to a decisive and brutal end.

With the full might of the Republican Army, tanks grinding forward across frozen wastes, artillery thunder shaking the mountains, and wave after wave of infantrygriffs pressing the assault, the fate of Skynavia was sealed. The once-proud Skynavian capital, New Skynavia, heralded by its founders as a shining beacon of progress amid the snow, has fallen. After days of unrelenting bombardment, the order came directly from President-Marshal Kemerskai: no more waiting. Assault the city.

Wave after wave of Griffons surged forward, maschinenpistoles in hand, and brutally attacked Skynavian defensive positions. It was a slaughter, and within a week the city had been captured by the Republic.

The time of reckoning had come for the communists of Skynavia. The communist leadership was captured. There were no trials. The beak served as judgment. The remnants of Skynavian society have been placed under occupation. They will either adopt the values of republicanism, discipline, sovereignty, civic virtue, or they will be cast out entirely.

In the territory of the Northern Communes, where a vast pony population exists, many ponygirls have been seized by Griffons as wives, and worse. The plunder of the northern wastelands will take years to recover from, but many argue that the republicangriffs deserve such loot for their bravery and courage.

As units of the Republican Army returned home to Cloudbury and other cities, some soldiers carried a new illness they had contracted in the north. Skynoxia, they called it. Weakness, fever, and death follow in its path. Already, cases have appeared in Cloudbury and Lostgate. The military has downplayed the severity, but the whispers are growing louder.

Victory has been declared. The threat to the north is gone. But a new shadow creeps beneath the triumph, one not born of revolution, but of contagion.

President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai, hero of the Revolution and architect of the new Republican Order, succumbed last night to the Skynoxian plague. Despite the tireless efforts of the Republic’s best doctorgriffs, the illness that he once dismissed as a passing northern fever proved more resilient than anticipated. He collapsed in the late hours, was rushed to Cloudbury General, and, surrounded by his staff and son, gave what are reported to be final words of encouragement to Alexander Jr. before passing from this world.

Republicangriffs awoke to a capital draped in silence. Flags flew at half-mast. The radio played only solemn music. And by noon, the Republic had a new President-Marshal.

In a brief ceremony, officials named Alexander Kemerskai Jr. the new President-Marshal of the Republic. Now he must make a decision. The late Kemersai Sr. had made promises to restore democracy eventually, but only after the threats to republicanism were over, after the Republic had defeated the Griffonian Empire. That has not yet happened, and some republicangriffs have said that for security reasons President-Marshal Kermeskai Jr. should retain the absolute powers his father obtained. A strong leader can make a difference for the future of the Republic.

Others have said that Kermeskai Jr. is not a strong leader, not the military commander like his father, and only has had limited time to ready himself for rule of the Republic. Republican ideals also would suggest that power should return to the civiliangriffs, not form a second dynastic reign.

The Republic stands at another crossroads. Whether Alexander Jr. will rise to meet the legacy of his father, or be devoured by it, remains to be seen.

President-Marshal Alexander Kermeskai Jr. had a good life. He now led the Republic. People respected him. They listened to him. His advisers did most of the work. And, to top off it, he had a haram of ponies he visited nightly. The ponies were kept compliant by daily injections of Talonbliss, a narcotic illegal within the Republic, but laws did not to the President-Marshal, who needed to be above the legal system for safekeeping of the nation. His favorite was a dark-furred pony nicknamed Twilight (nobody knew or cared about her real name), after Twilight Sparkle, the President-Marshal's favorite of the Equestrian heroes who now lay either dead or imprisoned after Equestria's fall to the Changelings.

The clock struck 11:00; Kermeskai Jr. sighed--time to rubber-stamp some orders and proclamations. This part of the job he hated the most. He had installed an autopen machine and tasked staffgriffs to use it whenever they felt it necessary, but for some documents his advisers demanded he actually sign them himself. Summaries were provided so he did not have to read the entire documents; his father had done that, and Kermeskai Jr. always thought that preposterous. In a nation of 9 million Griffons, one or two could be plucked from their village and assigned to read and summarize documents.

The first one before him was a decree of paramount importance, according to his advisers. Titled the 1013 Protection of the Republic Act, the document would completely abolish parliament and create an advisory council for Kemerskai Jr. All elections, including at the local-level, were dismantled. An obvious decision, for the Republic at this time needed to be able to appoint qualified and loyal officials to every political post to ensure maximum efficiency of republican governments and agencies.

Thus, with the stroke of a pen and the silent assent of the palace, the next chapter began.

Once, the Republic marched south with fire in its heart and steel in its talons, vowing to rid the continent of kings, emperors, and tyrants. Once, the name Kemerskai meant revolution, sacrifice, and resolve. But that was then.

Today, in a ceremony dripping with pomp and gilded extravagance, President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai Jr. formally named his successor: his son, Johannes Kemerskai. What should have been a solemn declaration of continuity in crisis instead echoed the coronations of the very monarchs the Republic once vowed to extinguish. No vote. No consultation. No pretense of process. The Republic is a republic in name only.

This selection solidified what some already knew, the title of President-Marshal and all the powers it entails follows dynastic succession. Kermeskai Jr. has assured the republicangriffs that this will only last until such time that the enemies of the Republic have been defeated, and republicanism is secured on the continent. How long this will take is unknown. The Griffon Republic has not made any indications that it will declare war on the Griffon Empire in years.

Even now, the Kingdmo of Aquileia, having consolidated the territories around it, is invading the Griffon Empire. And still the Republic does not invade from the north. Some wonder whether the President-Marshal purposely is holding back the Republic Army to continue his own reign.

What began as a crusade against monarchism has turned into a slow death of republicanism into a form of monarchy itself.

Within mere months, the Republic has thrown off its defensiveness and marched to war, not once, but twice. Under the leadership of President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai Jr., the armies of the Republic surged west into Vedina and then east into Whitetail, shattering monarchist regimes and redrawing the map of northern Griffonia.

The first strike came without warning. Over thirty divisions of hardened Republican troops assembled along the Vedinan frontier, even as monarchist envoys pleaded for diplomacy. Their pleas fell on deaf ears. With the stroke of a pen, war was declared.

The Republican Army swept through the Vedinan countryside with precision. Cities fell in rapid succession, and within a month the Kingdom of Vedina, one of the last remaining bulwarks of western monarchism, lay in ruins. Its banner was torn down; the republican eagle flew in its place.

Second, with Vedina secured, the same army pivoted east, now marching into the frostbitten mountains of Whitetail. The terrain was brutal, and the enemy stubborn, but the republicangriffs advanced inch by inch. After a month of hard fighting, they seized Brantbeak, the enemy capital. One month later, the Kingdom of Whitetail was no more.

Two wars. Two victories. And now, two new provinces to administer.

Victory, however, has its price. The occupation of Vedina and Whitetail has strained the Republic’s logistics and thinned its manpower. In response, the President-Marshal has issued a sweeping decree: universal conscription. All civiliangriffs of the Republic are now required to serve in some capacity within the Armed Forces. The age of the citizen-soldier has fully arrived.

With its northern and eastern flanks secure, the Republic now turns its gaze southward. The Aquileian Empire has triumphed over the Griffonian Empire and now holds the ancestral heartlands of the Griffon race.

July 18, 1015

The hour has come. The soldiers stand in formation, the tanks rumble at the borders, the artillery is loaded, and the skies above Cloudbury are thick with the roar of fighters and bombers preparing to take flight. All that remains is a signature. One stroke from President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai Jr., and the Republic will be at war with the Aquileian Empire.

Kemerskai Jr. was never a very good general; he lacked the discipline to become better. His father had been the tactician, the commander, the revolutionary. Kemerskai Jr., however, his interest was in ponies more than war. He was worried about defeat, but he was also worried about victory. Defeat might mean the end of the Republic and all the hopes the republicangriffs had for a better world of republicanism. Victory would likely mean the end of his reign, as there would be little argument in support of retaining the martial law and expanded authoritarian powers after seizing the lands of the former Griffonian Empire. Calls to restore civilian government would rise again. And with them, the end of the Kemerskai dynasty.

The Aquileians were strong. Before they entered into war with the Changelings across the ocean, numerous Aquileian divisions sat on the Republic-Aquileian border. Far more than the Republic had, that was for certain. The President-Marshal could delay the war until the resistance in the newly conquered territories was meted out. Yet still, the President-Marshal’s advisers urge action. Civiliangriffs, raised on years of rhetoric and sacrifice, now demand the final crusade. And so, war they will have.

Twilight died last night from a botched injection of Talonbliss. An ill omen? Kemerskai Jr. was not sure, but he could not delay the proceedings any longer. There was a war to fight.

Now, all eyes turn south. The Republic marches, not just to defeat monarchism, but to confront the contradictions of its own soul.

the "unite-and-then-shatter" risk in the game is also very interesting, it is quite hilarious to see neighboring blobs shatter but also makes the game interesting if my own nation shatters or, god forbid, my desired heir fails to take the top crown and gets to be a vassal instead
