Idk about testing but I've had a philosophy of only using wooden spatulas, enamelware and stainless steel pots, and glass and ceramic for cups, ever since I was a wee lad.
I got into this way of thinking because water and cola from plastic bottles/cups always tasted weird, so I intuitively stuck to more traditional materials for anything kitchen related.
If you take good care of your stuff you'll only really have to buy once and have it for the rest of your life probably. A lot of my pots and pans are inherited from my grandparents who mostly bought them in the 70s.
Should be safe enough, and looks more a e s t h e t i c to boot.
