Despite the lack of interest, I haven't been able to get this out of my head. So, I've been planning.

CH1: Stable 76
>Our hero, Flash Fire, lives in a stable with even populations of ponies and kirin. Marriage and procreation are controlled to maintain equal numbers of both species.
>He spends his days maintaining the failure prone Stable electronic systems while waiting for his marefriend and wife assignment.
>He is called into the Overmare's office one day.
>She explains the sad state of the stable to him: inbreeding will wipe them out in a few generations, spare parts for critical systems are running low, and the reactor can't be run at full power because the fuel's too spent.
>As a result of all this, she's made the decision to open the stable.
>But not quite yet.
>First, Flash is to scout out the surface and find out what it's like there and if there's good places to settle nearby.

CH2: The Wasteland
>Fresh out of the stable, Flash wanders around with no idea where to go.
>He runs into a few smaller creatures he manages to kill with little trouble.
>Finds an old farmhouse that's been lived in relatively recently; the first sign of sentient life.
>Spends the night there, deciding it's OK to take and use what little useful stuff is left behind.
>Next morning, he wakes up and wanders off.
>Only to run into slavers and get captured.
>He's put in a cage and has a chance to chat with some of the other slaves and observe.

CH3: The Mansion
>You read this one already.
>Judging by the lack of a response, I'll need to rewrite it to make it less boring and spice up Flash since he's dull and uninteresting.

CH4: Landfall Village
>As twilight is creeping in, Flash and his new companion (?) emerge from the woods and see walled village on top of a hill surrounded by fields of crops on one side and the ocean on the other.
>A mix of zebras and ponies are tending to the fields.
>The pair is welcomed into the village.
>There's no space for freeloaders so Flash is given a few things to try out.
>He's good at two things: electronics, and staying calm and focused thanks to the training in the stable to keep the Nirik out.

CH5: The Patrol
>A relatively short chapter about Flash getting introduced to a few other characters who guard the village.
>He's then given a rifle and is sent out to patrol the fields.
>A small group of raiders show up and he helps shoot them to pieces.
>In his pains about killing somepony, he's told that raiders should hardly be considered ponies since there's something wrong with their brains.

CH6: There's Nothing Here
>In the middle of Landfall Village, there is a large warehouse full of zebra wartime military equipment in various states of disrepair.
>But the warehouse is bigger on the outside than the inside.
>There's a locked door in the warehouse with a "There's Nothing Here" sign on it.
>Flash is shown what's inside: a complex device that is a mishmash of thick cabling, terminals, and servomotors.
>He's tasked with fixing it.
